Most cycle lanes are ste. Most have cars parked in them. It's better to use the road.
Other than that and the bike racing one I agree though.
Given that he said paths not lanes, I think he meant the paths that run parallel, but not connected to, the actual road itself?

In some circumstances. On wide main roads, yes it does give the cyclists an area of safety. What about the ones who refuse to temporarily adjust to single file on thin NSL country lanes? Vehicles are going to overtake you regardless. Surely you'd rather have the extra space available by doing so, rather than forcing cars to literally squeeze past you with the minimum of space?

Indeed, as a motorcyclist of many years, and mopeds and cycles for many years before that, I am aware of the mindset.

Unfortunately the only thing more distasteful to a car driver than a cyclist slowing him down to 5 mph, is a cyclist whose is attempting to modify others behaviour by risking his life, and being all pious and holier than thou about it. As I said to the chap, not everyone is a nice as me, or as patient, it's a big risk to take, I'd edge toward safety first before trying to cure the ills of the UK road users with my own flesh and blood.

Then why do cyclists keep calling for more cycle lanes?

People that don't indicate their exit off a roundabout.
This!
Happened at the roundabout just before the entrance to my place of work, cars from each direction arrived at pretty much the same time to the roundabout,

I was indicating to go right
driver to my left was indicating to turn right
driver in opposite lane was continuing on, but corsa cockhead to my right had no indicators on.

I sat there briefly as the others, except no indicators cock, were giving way to my right turn and as I started to make it, cock decides he’s turning right, and gives it full beans almost taking my front end off and a blast of his horn! I did have a quick look to see if possibly his front indicator was faulty and his rears were illuminated, thus making me the cock for pulling out on him, but they weren’t, thus relieving me of knob status wink

Cyclists who think that speed limits only apply to cars.

Richmond Park is a magnet for lycra clad dheads who think they're racing for England.

Yeah, maybe.
They can still be full of rubbish and broken glass.
Some are ok.

I usually ride in the centre of the lane. Two abreast wouldn't take up much more space. Two bikes side by side are as wide as a car, but easier to see through. I don't see the problem.

He was riding safely.
Should have been going faster though, the wimp.

Not all of them do.
I would call for better ones. ie, solid lines so cars can't park in them.

Speed limit is 20. Easily beatable on a bike. Personally I think cyclists should be aiming at making 50mph GATSO's flash.

The problem is a simple lack of consideration for other road users. I think knob is a sufficient term to describe someone deliberately impedes the flow of traffic by ignoring opportunities to let it safely pass, no?

You may also want to consider some light reading, in the event you do get knocked off by someone circumventing your wilful obstruction.

Highway Code For Cyclists said:
Rule 66. never ride more than two abreast, and ride in single file on narrow or busy roads and when riding round bends
Road Traffic Act '88 said:
(7)A failure on the part of a person to observe a provision of the Highway Code shall not of itself render that person liable to criminal proceedings of any kind but any such failure may in any proceedings (whether civil or criminal, and including proceedings for an offence under the Traffic Acts, the [1981 c. 14.] Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 or sections 18 to 23 of the [1985 c. 67.] Transport Act 1985) be relied upon by any party to the proceedings as tending to establish or negative any liability which is in question in those proceedings.

Cyclists that don't use the lane provided especially for them at everyone else's expense and inconvenience? A steering wheel lock wielding passenger usually sorts those tts out! wink

Things that make me think "knob"?

- Cyclists who damage cars when attempting to squeeze through gaps that aren't there, then ride off and leave the owner to deal with the mess. They should all have insurance. Some arsewipe dropped their bike on the door of my car whilst it was parked at work. Did they pay to remove the dent? Did they fk. bds.

- Those driving slow vehicles that won't pull over when they're holding others up. It's just selfish and bloody-minded. - They deserve to have their legs broken then see how fun it is to crawl around at a snail's pace.

- People who think that diesels are "better for the environment". Shut up and sit down before you hurt yourselves.

- For that matter; simpletons who think that driving a hybrid, eating lentils and not washing makes any worthwhile difference in the grand scheme of things.

I don't tend to cycle in the painted-on cycle lane on my commute, as its full of debris, potholes, the fronts of cars edging out of their junction, offers lower grip than the road next to it, is book-ended by parked cars and is about 25 metres long. There are at least three similarly useless stretches of cycle lane in the vicinity; I'd really much rather they didn't exist.

You'd have your passenger attempt to kill me for my decision?

Txting while driving is a piece of piss compared to trying to play "words with friends" while driving

Uh oh...

Near my house is a well used cycle way thing, a tourist trap kind of idea, well used by middle aged men in lycra who think that because they have massive thighs they could be the next Chris Hoy...

Anyway there is a blind, narrow, but two lane, hump back bridge, it's on a 60 zone and is a real accident black spot.

The other evening there was a couple of cyclist riding two abreast over the bridge, slowly, apparently they are not Chris Hoy, I'm a patient man and have no desire to kill anyone, so I follow cyclist at 5mph over the bridge. At the temp lights after the bridge I wound down my window and politely suggested to the cyclists that not everyone is as patient and polite as me and perhaps it would be wise not to cycle two abreast where conditions are not ideal.

For my trouble I got two helpings of FRO, a bird, and a threat of physical violence.
Look, this should answer all your issues:
