Just a thought about the HGV related banter. I've only ever driven 7.5 ton trucks but I get the impression that it's not quite so easy to simply pull up wherever to let traffic past. I also wonder at the sanity of car drivers who'll happily pull in front at the last moment and rob them of any hope of a safe braking distance. There are st drivers on the roads, in ALL types of vehicles, so it hardly seems fair to lay all the blame on HGV drivers. Just my opinion.

They don't like that - especially if they have their 'little boy' with them. Saw one on Saturday nearly take out a couple of old dears in Sainsbury's car park as he instructed his boy on the finer points of high speed parking.

Wow aren't lorry drivers such angels smile How much fuel does it cost the company transporting the extra 9 stones of lard around your gut then if you want to get pathetic?

On a serious note i'm not telling you to do anything. I am however informing you that if you're driving along at well below the speed limit of a certain road, causing a large traffic jam behind you, then not pulling over for 1 minute to allow the vehicles you have slowed down to pass, makes you a bit of a knob frankly. Same goes for caravanners not pulling over. A Long queue and no consideration for those waiting behind you is a bit selfish and therefore knobbish regardless of what vehicle you're in.
I very very rarely see truck drivers driving at a speed below the limit.

You're of course aware, that their speed limits are different. But still, you think they should pull over and stop, to let you by, every time you get stuck behind one?

Do you also think the sun shines out of your ass? And if trucks are such an inconvenience on the roads, what about horses? You seem to have no problem with them. Why's that?
It's because you miss-read my post
Of course i'm aware of the lower limits for lorries on roads relative to cars.

My point was that I think they should pull over if they are causing a large train of traffic to form behind them one or two cars isn't really a problem but causing big delays is a bit selfish i think. I would hope that if a horse rider is causing a large queue of traffic to form behind them then they will also pull over to let them through as well. Common decency really.

Sadly, it's this sort of 'me me me' attitude that makes everyone hate wagon drivers.

With regards to not pulling over, all it takes is for one or two crap drivers to get behind a lorry and any chance of overtaking safely disappears. It would be nice if the driver of the goods vehicle was polite enough to pull over let the queue past, even if it is really the fault of Dorris in her Micra that everyone is stuck doing 40mph.
laugh But everyone doesn't hate wagon drivers. Only numpties do. Imo. biggrin

Here's a couple of questions for you: When the wagon has pulled over, what do you honestly think happens to the queue; and when the wagon resumes his journey, what do you think happens then?

they overtake the numpty who was too scared to overtake in the first place and get on with their lives. Same happens to the wagon perhaps without also overtaking the numpty.

I didn't misread anything. Your comment was about people driving along the road at a speed lower than the limit. My comment was that I don't see this very often, and that their speed limits are different. If you are coming across lorries being driven at 25mph, on a single carriageway NSL road, then I can see how that would be annoying.

If, however, the lorry is driving along, at the speed limit, doing his job, I don't see why he/she should be expected to pull over to let incompetant drivers that can't manage an overtake, by. You talk about 'common decency' whilst you clearly think you're more important than the driver you're talking about.

I commute 15 miles of B road every day each way that is used often by trucks.

I have absolutely no issue being stuck behind them - although when I'm stuck behind a truck who is stuck behind a car - that boils my piss.

I have massive issues with those that risk other lives by attempting daft overtakes in which if someone was speeding coming the over direction, there is no way they'd make it.

What is the point? You save seconds, maybe minutes off of your journey. Either leave earlier for work if its a persistent issue or sacrifice a few minutes off of your life as to not drive like a c*nt.

If it's a hoon... why don't you just pull up for a while until the road is clear?

Im not sure what you mean by 'daft overtakes' but their seem to be a massive problem in this country with safe overtakes. horns road blocking flashing, sometimes you get the works. your not one of these types are you ? I was flashed from a mile away on Saturday as I over took one single car. then 20 seconds later I got coffee beans the lot?

Overtakeing a HGV in a R300 superlight really shouldn't be an issue.

Out of interest do you ever overtake the lorries you encounter?

Penrith cycling club = knobs

I've got a bike and I don't mind cyclists but when cycling clubs and their Tour de France wannabes have a road trail event, one would hope that a bit of planning and thought would go into the route.

I don't think that holding a road event for these Tour de France wannabes on the A66, (a very busy trans-pennine route), between Temple Sowerby and Appleby....on a Friday......at 5pm....on a bank holiday weekend is good planning.

Knobs!
What's the problem? Did they refuse to politely pull over and allow the queue that's built up behind them to pass?

Have done and regularly do on the clear sections of road which there are a few of on the stretch - perhaps worded it wrongly to say I sit behind them. It's those who make an over take where they are reliant on either nothing coming the other way/those in the left lane giving them space should they need to abandon that fk me off.

I drive a VX220 daily, so on the occasion this B road is clear it is a joy. If I'm behind a lorry and can clearly see there is another 2 in the distance I know there is no way there will be opportunities to overtake all of them by the time the B road is up so I'm happy to sit behind them. My journey to and from work is affected far more by how congested two sets of traffic lights - sadly, not many others think ahead like this.

Point stands though, what's the rush?

VR6 - not one of those types at all, but I've only ever slowed the progress of a couple of talented bikers. Has a blast with them while the road was double whites and as soon as it wasn't let them past.

Had to laugh at the bloke in the 5 series that took massive offence to my Vauxhall overtaking him on a slip road the other day and then attempting to box me into the left lane only for the right lane he was in to slow down biggrin

A convoy I was in on Sunday came across a Dorris in her micra doing exactly this...did not go over 30mph ONCE for a good 4-5 miles on a NSL road.
