Must admit for me it would be the MG hands down. I have no idea why, but I find it exudes a charm that the others (or very few cars in the last 10 or so years) can match. I love the colour of that one too biggrin
Fortunately I like the colour too! I say fortunately, as it was the first Mk1 estate I found in 6 months of looking (they made fewer than 30), and I've only seen another 4 or 5 for sale in the 5 years I've owned it.

It's also - maybe not surprisingly - the only V8 in that colour across all the variants. hehe
Out of interest, what are the running costs like? I'd imagine not too bad with the simple V8? smile
From what I saw running costs are predominantly replacement rear tyres ... wink
yes

I just got it back from the garage. £297 for service, MOT and sorting a couple of minor issues. Sailed straight through the MOT with nothing more than.... An advisory on the tyres! hehe

I usually get through a set of rears in around 6-7k miles. I'm sure they could be nursed for considerably longer, but who buys a V8 to nurse the tyres? Even then, they're not stupidly expensive - a bit of judicious internet sourcing and a tenner a corner under the counter at a local tyre fitting chain comes in at around £120 per corner at most.

If I'm in the mood for nursing tyres, the BF Goodrich tyres on my Shogun have done 25k miles and rising, and they still have about 15mm of tread left on them. I suspect I will replace them because the sidewalls perish rather than anything else! hehe

Are you sure you don't mean 6-7k yards? wink

The unprompted view from the mechanic looking at the wear (on the outer edges on the front, but even on the rears) was "either the tracking is out, or you like driving quickly round roundabouts".

Uh-oh. frown Part of me was hoping it'd be hideously expensive, but I fear you've just stuck it on my 'cars to consider when I'm a bit more flush' list biggrin

M3 Touring Diesel, or M5 Touring Diesel on the cards soon - even AWD? That will give the Audi's some decent competition.

This may be an import but it was one of the best cars I have ever owned. Fast, reliable, well built, massive boot and no one knew what it was or how quick it was.

On the Autobahn she kept up with a 56 plate RS4 up to 150mph, only then did he pull away, and that was from a rolling 2nd gear start. I paid £2500 for this!!!

Lovely cars in this shoot, but I now have a 3.0 B spec and its wonderful and you don't see many, which I like.

Nice, very nice. Got to love a fast wagon (touring smile). Particularly a B10.

I've only just seen this thread as it popped up as a highlighted one when I was on the Porsche forum.

Has anyone mentioned the Audi 200 Quattro Turbo Avant from the 1980's? I had one in the early 90's and managed an indicated very stable 145mph before I backed off so I could exit at the junction I wanted to (this wasn't necessarily on a public road, or in this country, obviously).

Oh, and on the subject of fast estates, a nice Audi S6 Avant I sold 3 years ago is now for sale by the owner:

I had a 100 in that shape and loved it, looked at a couple of 200s to replace it but they were knackered, would still have one now.

Honestly If I had room for another car I'd have been on the phone and hightailed it to Cheshire yesterday to buy that.

Looks perfect, do you mind me asking why did you sell it 3 years ago?

I have always wanted a 200 turbo, never realised that they did an Avant! Bet there's precious few of those about frown

I'd imagine that the most of them are auto too.

Oddly the only car I looked up in the classifieds is the MG ZT 260. Years since once pulled from the kerb and cut us up hehe the MG pinned it and he must've had straight pipes fit because it sounded amazing.

I attended a large car show recently, after looking around the entire show we were discussing which car were our favourites. Out of all the modified and expensive machinery I picked a standard Grey Audi RS4 Avant, exactly the same as Smita's.

As mentioned on the other estate thread, if I were a bit older and my situation suited I would have loved to own one from new, for a very long time. They look absolutely beautiful and have a v8 that revs to 8200rpm, what's not to love? lick Oddly, I wouldn't entertain the RS4 saloon, they do nothing for me.
