RE: Aston Martin V12 Zagato Revealed

WRONG WRONG WRONG those are hideous. They'd look more at home on a Barry'd Clio. That's why the employees of Zagato do their jobs and you do yours! Gorgeous car. An unfulfillable dream for me but still.... phwoar!
To those who insist on picking a design apart. "That's an Audi wheel" "It's got the arse of a Ferrari" "Elements of Jaguar there!" Etc. All car design is derivative when something really ground breaking comes along the cognoscenti throw their arms up to the ceiling "IT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A xxxxxx ANYMORE!" Designers can't win, they have to throw in design cues so that people think it's a Jag or an Aston, you can't have the poseurs driving a car that no-one knows what it is! Imagine?
So yes there are design cues, principally to lead you into the design.
Oh and this is beautiful, so, so beautiful...
We are not worthy.

^^^. That's very good. I'll buy you a pint when you're next in London. I love Astons too - had em all over last few years, but can't quite see why everyone is gushing over this one....
Have your beer at the Running Footman and you can then critique the dark blue one and the Cumberland Grey one outside. And when finished, wander up the mews and look at the v600, a proper car.

It sounds good, but I still maintained that Zagato have ruined the look fo yet another Aston! nouze said:
Hmm.. there is no way I'm getting my clubs in that boot. Quite bazaar that there are so many comments about the design, and not one of you has mentioned the balance between aesthetics and aerodynamics.
As was said in the article -
"The V12 Zagato is an elegant yet brutal design which reflects the great balance between race performance and pure Aston Martin style"
That should tell you that the design is as much influenced by good aerodynamic performance as it is trying to please a bunch of armchair "car enthusiasts" who wouldn't know the difference between downforce and drag.
I sometimes wonder if the najority of people on here may as well be on a Forum about wallpaper.

Aero is of much importance to all these sort of cars, lots of manufacturers manage to still have a pleasing design while maintaining the drag and downforce numbers they want.As was said in the article -

I'm not that keen on this car but at least Aston have been brave enough to do something different from another DB9 variant.

Absolutely! I work on Curzon St. I see the grey DB7 Zagato every day, and the proper blue v600 most days Chalk and cheese. Fantastic metal to see each day.And when finished, wander up the mews and look at the v600, a proper car.
I'm kind of torn on this one. I like the side profile, though my first thought was R35 followed by Toyobaru with the blacked-out a-pillars and window line. The back is very different from the current Aston line up, but kind of works in its own way.
I'm somewhat disappointed that Zagato spent all that time/effort/$$ on replacing virtually every panel, yet kept the regular Vantage headlights, as if they had run out of ink to design new ones.
The taillights remind me of another recent, red, concept:
Much more Alfa than Aston.

Oh yes I see what you mean, it's red and has two doors Posters seem to be forgetting that Aston are doing a 'non street legal' race version and a road version. This is the race version, the actual car to go racing next week at the VLN - the rear detailing will likely be different on the road version
So until we see the finished result, it doesn't seem to make much sense to say the rear end 'looks' unfinished...... it isn't finished
I don't think even Aston themselves have yet decided how raw the road legal version will be or how many they will make but the more photos I see, the more I'm inclined to think even the road version will be closer to a 911 GT3 RS in spirit, certainly at least as raw as a GT3 or a Scud, than anything Aston have ever made as a road legal production car before. Which is in the spirit of the original V12 RS concept
I think if you look at the photos with that in mind, some of the concerns go away and the car makes more sense
Have to say changing the wheels to black between the initial studio shots and the car shown at villa d'este makes a huge improvement

This, I am going to have to see in the flesh...not entirely sold yet!
I know it's totally off at a tangent but why do people say "This", ... ? The scentance makes perfect sense without the word. Is it yet another Americanism creeping in? Either "This, I am going...", "This I am going..." or "I am going to have to see this..." works. The sentence requires an object, here it is referencing the Aston as "This".
No Americanisms here thanks!

Any why would it be "functionally illiterate" to be able to convey one's sentiments of agreement with somebody else in a single word? Can it not be considered an efficient evolution of langauge?
By the way, please consider those rhetoric questions. It would be nice to keep the thread on topic.

I sort of like it, would have been nice if it was more smooth rather than edgy (if that makes sense).
Although the comparison between the GTR and this are noticeable.
You beat me to it. That was my first thought. The big roof line is very much like the GT-R. I still like it though. Although the comparison between the GTR and this are noticeable.
My mate picked me up in his tonight. F*ck nothing is that fast, so fast its just silly...
