I remember seeing one of these come up in the classifieds about a year or two ago in the "lucky dip" section. I think there was one prototype car ( in silver ) that was used as a test mule fully running along with a spare 4.6 v8, different rear axles and the body moulds, basically to own all the manufacturing of the car! Price wise think it was something like 80-90k the seller wanted for the lot.

The yellow one looks good though me likey! thumbup

I'm waiting for that fox to walk on and say 'well, it's different'...

Still, fair play to the owner for getting something unique.

Remember seeing the pics just after Andy shot this in the winter. bow Have to say the fit and finish on it is very good and the work that Southway Automotive have done is spot on!

I do enjoy working on this car! biggrin

GTD started this "project" to try and broaden their horizons beyond a not too bad GT40 kit car business. It's sometimes best to stick to what you know, as dillusions of grandeur quite often lead to bankruptcy ... 90 grand for a kit car, that must have been some session in the pub!

So its a kit car, and I'm sorry to anyone who thinks its something special, but thats what it looks like, and thats what it is. At least the GTD40 was pretty good when properly built (driven a factory one years ago, wouldn't own one), and it copied a good car to start with ... and even Ford managed to screw that up somehow !!

Curious, but on a more rational level. What exactly don't you like about it? I think looks are a little too subjective to be the sole decider on price.

Its a kit car, its ugly, and I don't subscribe to the "take a chance on it" school of motoring. Theres nothing irrational about it, I've had Jensens, Lotus's, Bristols, pre Ford AM's ... you name it, they're all bitsas and often let you down. I'm quite happy to get the tools out as I used to work in motor sport (properly), but when I spend 90k +, I just want to drive it - that's why I drive a 911 Turbo (997) ... sorry to all the non-believers, but I've done the Italian thing time and again - never again, even with VW back-up.
Irrational? ... I don't think so, buying this for more than £200 is irrational .... and I'd love to find a bank manager like that next time I need some money.
Its a kit car, end of story.

eh? Why be so hostile and rude about someones car? confused

And I reckon a trip to the eye clinic might be in order if you think it looks awful.

Actually I was hoping you'd be able to tell me it doesn't drive very well, or there was some technical issue about it. Whereas in fact all you've done is reply in a fantastically irrational manner.

In short you seem to be saying = "I hate kit cars, I consider this one, therefore I hate it" rolleyes

I spent some time at the 'factory' (read warehouse on an industrial estate) when Spectre cars were a going concern. As stated, and by the time I visited, they were using the good'ole Mustang V8. The cars they were working on were akin to a kit car (fit and finish) and there was a strong whiff of imminent failure; however, no worse than so many home-brew British car makers.

Good to see a few of the later cars survived.
I remember the warehouse, down at Holton Heath near Wareham.

I was out in Oxted and got a bump start ( alternator packed up) from a nice chap who i am 99% said he owned a Spectre R-something?? Ford powered. I think he said it was black but I may be wrong. And he lived fairly local to Oxted, Surrey if I remember. OP, do you know the car??

Very nice and even more unique bit of pukka British kit.A few more pics perhaps though? Engine bay, interior, two big black lines on the road wink ?

I'd love to know how well it performs, too. I'd wager it sounds a treat smile Should be well before cats were mandatory?
