Plus look at the five guys in the photo (apart from the guy in the passenger seat).......they all look at least 50! Typical Merc drivers!

Agreed. Is this any better?

I am sure the M3 is a great car but i have always resisted the temptation because so many of the drivers look so badly dressed, so aggresive and so angry. Is this because the car is useless unless you are on a track or that elusive B road (you know the one without the caravan/cyclists/sheep)? Perhaps the air con doesn't work ?
Now a C63 Coupe, that looks like a "gentlemans express", comfortable, civilsed and when you drop the hammer on the straightish roads one usually drives quickly upon (you know M's and A's)well, it has a VERY BIG HAMMER TO DROP.

Was it PJ O'Rourke who said "age and guile are better than youth and a stupid haircut"?

The only real rival to a C63? A year old CL63

I shall tell the 29-year-old in the driving seat of the Merc that biggrin

Well that's it, I ain't buying one of these Merc's. The alloys are too small & I'm not over fifty. So, now I'll have to get an M3 along with a suitable demeanor & dress the part!

Naw, I'll suffer with the 'small' alloys and to hell what people think! smile

Is it only me that thinks that from more than one angle it looks exactly like an M3? Not sure I like that as a move, Merc.

What a car.

I wrote my article on it last night and decided that I'd sleep on it and revisit it this morning in case I'd been a little OTT.

Good review, Riggers.

Great car - dull review.

Why is it recent PH reviews read as if the testers have merely ingested the PR pack and not actually driven the car itself?

No emotion. No real insight. No real conveyance of how the car actually performs.

The M3 is better in every single way; Engine,Brakes, chassis and fine details that this useless pig will never match.

Oh,and Iam sick of hearing the crappy farty exhaust note from these AMG 63's,let's have a treat and hear a proper race derived engine instead that doesn't need an artificially enhanced exhaust note.

1730Kg must be for the armour plated version with 1" thick glass right ?? IIRC EVO mag weighed a C63 saloon in a group test a while back against M3, IS-F and RS5. Merc rates the saloon at 1730Kg too AFAIK, it was actually 1827Kg on EVO's scales. eek Too heavy !!! 1M anyone ??

So where does the CLK 63 fit in to the new MB range? As that was always a C class floor with a coupe body.

Seriously, the amount of bloody E class variants and now C class variants they've brought out recently is ridiculous! Presumably we can look foward to a S Class coupe in due course and then the CL will have a 4 door variant?

I'm liking this this a lot esp. with 487 or was it 478bhp? (article quoted different figures for the PP)

I ran a e92 M3 and it was a great car esp with an aftermarket exhaust, stunning in most respects and more enough motor for anyone.

I'm guessing they both have different characters but all that torque would make for effortless progress.

I'd be happy with one on my drive.

I don't expect we will see a black version of this now the SLS is here which is a pity....the engine would have to swing it for me...the noise, the fact it is hardly breaking sweat producing 481bhp..masterpiece
there is already a c63 black series coupe and saloon being caught testing on the nurburgring just google it it should come up.

Lol...what a surprise - everyone goes into an M3 vs. C63 debate full of opinions based on......erm.......mmm.......let me see.........nothing! Except of course for the few reviews in the press that actually rate both cars extremely highly but will nearly always favour the car more suited to the track or that elusive empty back road.... and to hell with what it's like to live with everyday. This one in particular is most amusing but there are plenty of other equally poor examples....

Written by someone who's probably driven neither of them!

Well, having previously owned both (for over a year each), the M3 is without a doubt the more dynamic car. Its also the better car for going on a track and in particular, for going round the Nurburgring it's been my best car so far. Does that make it the better car? Well yes, if thats what you're going to with it everyday.

If your daily usage contains more town driving, motorway driving or any driving on real roads with traffic getting in your way then you may find that the final 5% of the M3's dynamic capability is somewhat overshadowed by the AMG's better performance, much better steering feel, better refinement, better build quality, better (best ever) seats, more satisfying noise and, dare I say, nicer image (yes, people just tend to prefer the AMG and this is even from enthusiasts, people who know their cars). For instance, when I pulled up in the 'ring car park in my M3, the car may as well have been transparent yet the AMG caused rather more interest.

Don't get me wrong, I'd have an M3 again in a heartbeat (if there wasn't so much other nice metal out there wink) but would I have one instead of a C63? Not so sure about that...they were both great cars but I think for something to live with day to day, the C63 has the edge. If the coupe closes that small dynamic gap further then it's almost a no-brainer in favour of the Merc. It's also apparent that the buying public seem to put a much higher value on the AMG compared to the M-car (for the first time)....they're almost pound for pound new but a couple of years down the line C63 will open the gap in it's favour by thousands!

What isn't beyond doubt is that the one-sided comments (both ways) by some are clearly based on a total lack of experience or knowledge of both cars. Go live with them for a long period then come back with some factual feedback!

Also, whoever wrote the feature.....what's all this about??

the same engine/gearbox combo, broadly speaking, also serves in the E63 AMG and the SLS AMG supercar
Come on....you get paid for doing this! SLS has a dual clutch gearbox which has no relation to the MCT whatsoever.

i would have to disagree i have the c63 amg saloon and a m3 limited edition the amg has a better engine, better interior, better sound, the brakes i would say are just as good on both cars the m3 feels sharper to drive.the c63 coupe should be a sharper drive than the saloon i think this car will be a very good car to drive.
