RE: PH Carpool: TVR Tuscan S
Discussion
OP, are you going to be keeping up a running update or blog? I have always lusted after a MK1 Tuscan but have been put off by the countless horror stories. It would be great to get a real world view on the ups and downs of TVR ownership. I'm sure I'm not the only one who'd be interested in hearing about your ongoing ownership experience.
Quite a good write-up in EVO this month on the current state of play with TVR.
Dom Trickett (MD - TVR Power in Coventry) has a few paragraphs advising that he is trying to get/has got the chassis jigs and body moulds for the 'Wheeler' era cars (Griff thro' to Sagaris) and is inviting punters to buy one of these. He goes on to say that he can put a GM LS engine, Rover V8 or 'Power's' own speed 6 (4.3 or 4.5) with a 5 year unlimited miles warranty (drivetrain)into one of these.
Main thrust of the article is pretty complimentary - mind, it was Dom's own Sagaris that was tested...so should be right on the money!!
So - to any waverers, i'd say buy one soon! Great back-up now, and with zero new cars being produced, they will become a rarity.

I had a Mk1 Tuscan which was an early 2000 model and had been an exotic rental.
The bills etc showed that the company had looked after it but by the time I got it, it was realy in need of a lot of attention.
I spent a lot of time and money having the engine rebuilt along with a number of other jobs.
The car was incredible. Apart from the acceleration and noise, the friendly attention it got was amazing.
I suppose the colour, Purple Paradise was a factor but it didnt matter what country I was in, people stopped me and asked about it.
I'd had a Wedge and a Chimaera (not so gay if you've driven one) and once the Tuscan was sorted, like the others, it never let me down and was such a great daily car. Never regretted a penny I had to spend.
After sadly writing off the Tuscan I had no hesitation in buying another one, this time a Mk2 Tuscan Convertible.
The Mk2 is fantastic. The build quality is very good and a credit to the factory and their actions for improvement.
Its a real shame that a formula for survival could'nt be found.
Its a good point made that there are still so many TVR's on the road relative to how many were made. What they did right was that, due to their own passion, give the cars a sole.
Long live TVR.

sometimes its hard to imagine how this company failed
Isn't it pretty-much accepted that it failed because it's new owner decided to do exactly what our carpooler asked and fix all the niggly problems at the factory - which resulted in the cost of the cars going up and the sales going down???Changing from a 'niche' maker of mad but fragile chest wigs to a competitor for Porsche, in effect, killed em?
Nothing comes close to a TVR. They have Blackpool stamped deep into their chassis. I loved *everything* about mine, in the end I really do have to say I cared nothing about their failures and only that everyday I knew I had a little bit of home with me and just like the hometown, it made everything else seem dull.

Now there's something I've never heard about TVR's!! Just who are these "alot of people"?
Cracking car btw.
As mentioned bud, I musn't have explained myself properly. I was referring to the colour theme! My badCracking car btw.
The Tuscan being a 'new' TVR is just as awesome as any of the classics (I do know, I own one)
They do require a lot of TLC, but the alleged 'unreliability' is just to keep the hurds out (don't tell anyone...)
For people in the TVR know; Once bitten forever smitten !
(btw; congrats on your purchase)

On getting my nurse to read your post I agree 100%, & I'd choose black any day.

Its interesting to hear opinions about the plates. the black and whites were on the car when I got it and my initial reaction was to put standard ones on, but not got round to it yet. I'd be a liar if I said I was fully sold on the black and whites but............
More to the point, are they legal?Mr Trophy said:
