Good choice, mine was £400 too and is currently my daily driver.

We have a love hate relationship with each other and about once a week the old girl is threatened with ebay but then I always seem to change my mind!
Currently debating what to do and whether to throw some cash at it and set her up for sprinting and hill climbing or just run until she goes pop.

My thoughts are similar, I'm tempted to splash out and put a few mods on it, but then that defeats the object of it being my cheap summer run about scratchchin

Mine goes in fits and starts, upgraded the suspension and brakes so it handles and stops. Then left it alone for a while, then fitted some chassis braces and a decat, then left it for a while.

Next step is a roll hoop, air con delete and new bushes I think but I really don't know if I can be bothered!
I just don't know what to do with the car!

I present to you the cockroach! (Not actually mine but it did spend some time here)

Mate bought this of another mate for about £100. Sat in my yard for 6 months until he passed his test. He used it for a while then it got returned to my yard for 6 months until ANOTHER mate bought it for a royal £50. It still survives, has run up to Edinburgh, down to Essex got a (VERY) dubious paintjob and STILL will not die

Christ that is black! My front ones are bubbling but haven't broken through... yet.

What is the engine like in that one? Never driven a 316i!

Haven't had chance to drive it properly yet. Biggest thing is that it is a cable operated throttle and it is very stiff. It runs around the engine and no doubt dries out. It will need to be changed! Feels like enough power to be useable, although had to disconnect a faulty MAF (new one on its way) so should feel a bit better after this has been changed. Lots of parts are interchangeable with the M3, new(ish) paper air filter has been donated!

I wondered what happened to this thread! Am adding my £500 3.2 XJ6 Jag to the list.

109k miles, had only a couple of months MOT (MOT tomorrow), needed a new rear light and wing mirror (got them cheap off ebay) and I recently changed a slightly sticking caliper and stuck on new pads, disc and brake hose whilst doing it.Easy to work on, cheap for bits, drives lovely.Headlining is saggy as per usual..

How it looks now after I changed the wheels...

Sprayed the grill black.

Looks nice, Digby. How much have you spent to get it in shape, if you don't mind me asking?

Just picked up a new snotter, an 03 Yaris 1.3 Auto.
Same fastidious owner since 2006 and only 34k miles.
Clearly been pampered and has receipts for everything except petrol for the last 8 years!
Even have a receipt for a tyre from 5 years ago.
Drives perfectly and not a mark on it.
£2k seems a bit of a steal really.
Sorry mate,
That is not snotter

Had the same comments first time round and it's a fair comment too, definitely not a snotter in PH terms.
The old Yaris has done 12k faultless miles in 6 months though so is doing the job I need of it pretty well. smile

How many miles has it done?

As per the BB thread - sounds like a bargain

Bought my Saab 9-5 aero estate for £500. Spent £300 on a full service, sump removal/clean (this was done just in the nick of time) & fitting the breather pack to hopefully future proof. Couple of other little bits fixed also & it's a little blinder now. 100,000 miles & full Saab service history. However the last owner had lost interest in it & it had been relegated to the role of tip car & neglected a little in the last couple of years of ownership.

Only really bought it as a temporary work car while my van was off the road but it's so bloody good I'm going to keep it until it dies. It's now my evening & weekend runabout car. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time cleaning it, fixing little niggles (still ongoing) trying to get it back to as good condition as I can as the other half & I are quite smitten with it & my dogs love the huge boot.

It's not without its issues. But for £800 all in & wanting a quick comfortable estate with a touch of luxury not much beats it.

Complete rear light and entire electric mirror unit cost me £40 delivered, brake hose £13, x4 front shock bushes £18, caliper £39 and not that I 100% needed them, but I also got a new disc and pads for around £40.

In all honesty, had I realised that the caliper was the culprit at the start, I wouldn't have purchased the disc, pads & hose probably.

I could have also lived with the mirror and the slight clonk from the suspension if I am honest, but the mirror had tape holding on the cover and for £24 delivered in the same colour from a breaker it seemed the right thing to do! The bushes were an easy job whilst doing the caliper as they were needed on the same side.

It had decent tyres on it but the old wheels needed a bit of a refurb so I treated it to the sportier set which came with tyres for £195 delivered.

In terms of 'getting it in shape' the jobs which needed doing sooner rather than later were the caliper and the rear light, so I could suggest I sorted it all for around £54 I suppose.

Just joined the club.. converting a boggo Passat into my dog transporter.. it was tatty in need of a service and had seen a minor prang at the front. So far work has been:

Remove and refit front bumper due to light crash damage
Replace front plate
Oil & filter
Air filter
Plugs

Next steps:

Tints
Install dog cage
Change DSG oil and filter
Remove dents / correct paint (when I am really bored)
