So far its OK. I've been decontaminating the interior and have run into a slight issue insofar as the driver's seat will only move around 2" forward now, and I'm not 7'11" to reach the pedals.

Otherwise its hilariously boaty.

I like these old Omega's the V6 models drive similar to a 5 series (ie good).
You can normally get old Saloons like that for £200-£400 they are amazing value.
My last couple were a 3.0 then 2.6 V6 estates could never get more than about 22 mg from either of them..
This one has cost about £4 in gas so far. So not upset at all! Regards the purchase price - I'm planning a silly multi tank uber range cruiser in the Lexus, and this thing has a decent 4 hole 85l cylinder which will be purloined, and a mate has offered to take the rest of my hands when I'm done. It's genuinely free motoring (and that's before my monthly commute drops from around £400 to around £130)

Edit to add: After 3 hours of faffing, the seat issue was 30p in 10p coins stuck in the mechanism, requiring the seat dismantling from the top down. I've so far found another 43p elsewhere in the car.

£794.27!

Snotter update. New lambda sensor, now fault free!

However, anticipated improvement in fuel economy has failed to materialise. It looks like a 1.4 Corsa with me driving it really does struggle to return much more than 32mpg.

One of you snotter fans needs to buy this -

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2017...

Looks like it maybe needs a little aesthetic TLC, but looks like a hell of a low miles bargain to my eyes. Even thought about it myself for some pocket money summer fun!

The V6's are not economical at all.

I couldn't get any more than 27 mpg out of my last one and I thought there was something wrong with it because I could easily get high 30s out of the Senator it replaced.

There was nothing wrong with it.

Even my 4.3 litre S Class I had before my current one was considerably more frugal!

This went unsold at £795 ok no eBay, might be worth getting in contact as it's a huge amount of car for the money

Yup I bought it and am going to run it for a couple of months. Will be up for grabs when I've moved and got things in order.

In the meantime is wafting like a champ, costing next to nothing to run (around 300 miles to £30 in gas) and setting fire to my bum with the heated seats being so hot. Lovely.

Looks like I dropped the ball a bit and haven't posted the Japanese snotters.

Around a year ago I was loaning my dad my Seat Ibiza (as pictured earlier in this thread) which he went and killed. As a result there was space in the fleet for a cheap but presentable car and it just happened that a friend of mine's mum was upgrading her car..

Lexus IS200, 2 owner, decent service history, everything seems to work fine, interior immaculate I paid £750

Over the last year it has proved itself 100% reliable and attracted plenty of positive feedback from friends and family, my dad inparticular has admired the car for a while.

The problem is I simply can't leave cars alone so ever since getting it I have kept an eye on ebay for a TRD bodykit + mesh grill, Lexus Aero 18inch alloys, a black interior and thought about having the bonnet/bumper painted.

The stars aligned on Saturday night when an IS200 appeared on Ebay, same colour, black interior, TRD grill and 18inch wheels on a car with 11 months MOT. The advert looked reasonably well written and the pictures OK so I thought what the hell and pressed BUY IT NOW for £600

That was 11pm on Saturday night, 9am the next day I was in Portsmouth and driving home in my new parts car.

Within a couple of hours of it arriving home the parts that I wanted with the exception of the interior have been swapped onto the Y reg car.

Then the car was delivered to it's new owner - I played a little trick on my dad by parking the two LexI? around the side of his house asking him to meet me outside to collect his new car. I'd already sorted all the paperwork so it was ready to drive.

He saw the Y reg first and said "your're giving me the Lexus?!" I said Hell No, not that Lexus, THAT ONE and pointed to the identical car. His reaction was brilliant!!*****

  • Yes I appreciate that on PH there are members buying parents/relatives far far more expensive goods and I've come across as a right cheapskateboxedin

Blimey, that's a great car aka for the money. I've always liked these since driving one at a CCIA day at Millbrook in the very late 90s. The Sports even got a Torsen diff. Felt very precise when new - a 3-litre manual would suit me best

beer thanks
You're absolutely right a N/A 3.0 I6 with a manual could have been popular in the UK and stolen plenty of E46 sales!

A LSD and a 3.0L (2JZ GTE) would be perfect but realistically isn't going to happen - have you seen the prices of 2JZ engines!! A LSD and maybe a cheeky HKS Turbo conversion is perhaps more likely.

I've really become quite fond of the IS200, no it's not a fast car but it is engaging. Despite looking like a boring 4 door being RWD, having double wishbone suspension all round, good weight distribution, a quick steering rack with a smaller steering wheel all make you feel like you are driving something far more entertaining.

Now have another one of these.

A lazy auto for creeping around in when required. Mind you, it goes ok still. They are chuckable little things, these.

My friend went to collect this for me and the seller wouldn't take any money for it until I had it back at home and was happy with it.

Never had that before! Very trusting.

The odd is300 manual does come up for sale. There was a red saloon back at the end of October that was a 300 manual. Mentioned in a thread on here

That looks great, I really fancy getting myself one but already have two saloons in the fleet. I'd also entertain the idea of a bigger engine though, is the non turbo Supra engine cheap enough?

Here's my addition to the thread....

Found on Faceache with a weeks MOT and requiring a few jobs for the next one (brake pipes, two tyres and a suspension arm). Reckon I'll be in at £600 including the test. The OH loves it and has claimed it as hers .

OK, I know it's not very PH [flamesuit on] but I haven't bought a car for a while.

This is to replace my Mother's irksome and battered VW Sharan that she's been pottering around in for the past couple of years. It's too big for her, (but she has dogs so needs something with a reasonably sized boot space), and the electrics have a mind of their own so needed something a bit smaller and simpler.

It's very clean, has new tyres and brakes all round, a shiny new exhaust and a fairly decent service history but has a running issue causing lack of power at higher rev's and a lumpy idle when cold. Other than that, it drives surprisingly well! I'm rather impressed with it for £400. It has a bit of MOT and everything else on it works!

According to the diag' codes, (P1895), and Google, it could take anything from cleaning the throttle body to a new gearbox to cure the running issue so I'm hoping for an easy and cheap fix. I have a MAF on order for it to try it out first.

Worst case; I can easily sell the wheels and tyres to recoup most of my outlay.

My brother has one of those, that's now fixed and up for sale. Is it the 2.0dti? Same running issue as you described, had a new maf, cleaned out the throttle body and had some cataclean in the dpf. Turns out the impeller in the turbo is/ was seizing up so it's been replaced with a secondhand one. Now runs fine.

Good news it parts from these being broken are plentiful and cheap.

No, it's a 1.8 petrol auto' so no turbo. Gonna try some cleaners through it too and see if that gets me anywhere but the seller told me they'd already tried cleaning the TB and new coil packs. Did wonder if maybe the cat' had collapsed but it seems to be blowing exhaust freely enough.

Like I say, I'll just go through all the 'low hanging fruit' first to see if any of that makes a difference.
