Sorry but I think I didnt make my point clear enough. If you compared cars of comparible age it would be a fair comparison but comparing cars with 17 years between them isnt a fair comparison.
Sorry but that's just whinging rubbish. The XJS was built until 96 almost unchanged and the car I compared it too started production in 93. So there was a production overlap of the models.

And as there was no 99 XJS it is somewhat more than impossible to compare one to anything. And saying you shouldn't compare it at all is just being childish.

I owned both vehicles I used as a comparison, one went on to directly replace the other for exactly the same purpose and use.

The price and the build quality are another subject and I agree Value for money wise it would be hard to compare with any of the big Amercian equivalents.Handling wise ask NIckolarun he takes his on the track regularily and it seems to handle just fine.( he does tend to fill his arches/sill ends with soil though some sort of ballast I expect).

There was a recall for the fuel rail due to under bonnet fires. Think it went from round to square or vice versa.

Mine hadn't been done and recalls don't ever expire. I contacted Jaguar who approved the recall and I contacted a dealer. They fobbed my off for 2 years saying they couldn't find the parts.....

To be fair I didn't hassle them enough or get the factory involved any further than approving the recall initially. I probably should have done though. This was in around 2000 on a 1982 XJ-S HE.
URQuattro suggested that the pictured fuel rail was standard - here's mine...

I wonder if the recall was HE cars only - will be interesting to try and get recall work done on a 32 year old car...

There is a write-up on Bernard Embden's site and it appears that KWE have a revised fuel rail as part of their V12 'deep' service.

Does anybody know if the HE rail would be a straight swap?

Thanks.
That looks like the fuel rail on my 82 (I think, its been a few years). I'd give Jaguar a ring (not a dealer but the factory) and ask them about it. You might need to highlight the fact recalls don't ever expire. But I don't know if the recall was HE only cars or not.

That said, you could argue if it's survived 32 years so far, then maybe it's ok.

My 1982 V12 HE is a square profile fuel rail, it is original, I have never seen the round one before but dont make a habit of looking under elderly ladies bonnets.laugh

Thanks.

Nothing wrong with that, mine is not quite a s hyped up and a more sendentary VW green metallic with bodykit big wheels and all the irresponsible stuff plus 300bhp modified engine and manual five speed.
This is very appealing and reminds me of a Camaro I once saw somewhere.

There's a 4.0 for sale at the moment that I'm more than just in love with, can I persuade my missus that it's nearly £7k well spent? scratchchin

I had a 6L facelift XJR-S for about five years. IMHO it was the best car I ever owned. I used it every day and it never let me down even once.

I sold it and bought a Boxster - bad move!
I'd probably buy it back if I could. Has anyone seen it? smile

I've seen it, in that pic there... tongue out

That Koenig would look great in Miami circa 1985.

My Grandad had a 3.8 XJS and it rode brilliantly. Wafted around everywhere. And had a bit of poke to it.

Keep thinking about acquiring a V12 before I hit 50. So got 20 years to save up for the petrol to fill it up!!

How can anyone dislike the XJS???

if they had sold in fewer numbers they would be very pricey indeed. As it was a successful car (overall) and sold worldwide it is not a true classic... YET!! but find a nice original one, give it few years and as they start vanishing from the roads you will have a sound investment and simply lovely car to cruise around in..

as for comparisons with camaro's, hey? what does that have to do with the price of fish??!!!

If you take care of it run it for 12 months you would at least get your money back.

A body kit by Paul Banham, his view of what any XJS should be - dont think they made or sold many, enough said.
