Sorry to say, but I strongly suspect these may be the cowboys exposed on Watchdog! (or similar program, sorry can't remember details).

The fact that they've changed address and company name is probably down to having countless CCJ's against the old company. Get the best legal advice you can, get in touch with Watchdog, above all, I'm afraid you have to now assume you're going to be screwed, so do what you can to strengthen your position!

Go to Citizens Advice Bureau asap, find out if there's any help you can get from the lender. If you took finance on the car and the engine blew, there may be some liability to the lender on car finance. Just get all the help you can as quick as you can.
I was thinking the same. frown

Why the fk did you go to a garage 150 miles away, and how did you get the car there.

BTW, in future if your car starts making a knocking noise whilst driving, FFS stop immediately and call the breakdown out.
If you had have done, it maybe would have only run a bearing or two and needed about £300 work (half a day).

Check you oil regularly too.

Dig a little more and you'll find that the people who bought them are either doing engine swaps themselves, for what will be the same company or one that is linked with the OPs garage, fake accounts that have bought little more then a couple of mobile phone holders for a car, some cd headunits, or are breaking cars that are in the same area as the OPs garage.

Bloody hell mate, both industrial estates are local to me. I used to live just at the end of the Ripple Road industrial estate and can safely say I wouldn't trust anything in there! Best of luck but get trading standards on it immediately, you're being taken for a ride.

Have you given him any money?

I'm guessing you have... This isn't going to end well mate. Sorry.

I'd be taking the advice in this thread and going down there with a few friends who know what they're talking about.

In light of the terrible service from this company I think a Dealership/Stealership Thread should be created and stickied. It would be nice to know some reputable companies that are reasonably priced, have good workmanship and above all don't take you for a mug, it would also be a thread where you could name and shame companies like the one that the OP's car is in.

Unfortunately, that goes against PH's name and shame rules.

You have the engine number for your car on the V5. Check it against the engine that's in there. I bet it's the same. You're being scammed. Get down there with some mates and rescue your car ASAP, before they flog it for parts and do a runner.
This!

Sounds entirely like they hadn't even removed your old engine. If you've spent nothing at the garage so far then pay a couple of hundred quid for a recovery or transporter and get your car out of there.

Get the car back ASAP.

No one will help you with any of this eg trading standards can't make them do anything, you won't get any money back sorry hope you didn't get them much up front.

no i havent given them any money but they will want some if i remove the car the blokes in there look pretty hefty too. he did say if i was going to dispute the matter that it would end bad for me and that it was better for "us" more him to just let him get on with things. i felt like he was saying if i disputed it in anyway he would put the charge up or somthing along them lines. i let the car go ther because it looked pretty good the had loads of adds on ebay and a decent looking web site plus was about 500 quid cheaper than my local mansfield engine centre my mistake

Im afraid the 2100 looks too cheap to me, and is at a guess is a second hand unit going in it... I have one of these godforsaken 2.2DCI engines in my Espace, and the plastic gasket in the engine blew distrbuting my engine oil along the motorway without as much as a warning light...

After having paid out around 1500 quid in the end to have the bd gasket replaced, I had a war of words with Renault UK and finally got my initial fee back for them trying to fill it up with oil and send me on my way... After having to insist they take it for a test drive to make sure the fking thing was fixed (I had to drive it back to Belgium afterall), I got a call to say whoops it had shat out the nice new oil they'd put in and that the gasket (which IS A KNOWN RENAULT 2.2DCI ISSUE) would need replacing.

The car itself is fit for purpose, but the 2.2dci unit should have been recalled and re-engineered years ago...

Anyway. It sounds to me like you've gone to Bully Boy Motors who were assuming they could fix you up on the cheap and make a bit of cash out of you, and now they are having to wait for parts which no doubt Renault wont want to give them (they have a nasty habit of doing this Ive noticed... Even something as simple as having your aircon regassed and reset HAS to go to Renault for the reset to turn it back on whe an error is logged in the system... 55 quid, thanks very much...)

I cant complain about the 1.5dci Scenic my Mrs has - but the 2.2dci engine is a roaring crock of st that Renault knew full well was/is a flaky unit, but will unfortunately bat you off with their annoyingly short warranty...

Best bet is to jump in your tardis and head back to just before you bought it and think again wink

Apparently the 90bhp DCi Renault lumps are a good bet too (unlike everthing else in the range) according to a taxi driving aquaintance.
I was in a 2004 Laguna 2 1.9dci taxi a few weeks back with 235,000 miles on the clock. Original engine and gearbox, second turbo and second clutch. Done 150,000 miles around town as a taxi in four years - not bad going me thinks! The 1.9dci Renault engines are ok (as long as you avoid the 2002/2003 ones which suffered from turbo failure and potential engine runaway due to a design fault) - mines done 86,000 miles and starts, pulls and sounds like new. Avoid the 2.2dci however, it was a disaster of an engine and was swiftly dropped, but not before many had gone bang!

Taken from another current thread!

Good luck with the work/garage etc...

Ive taken a massive hit (financially) on my Espace, and if it werent for the Mrs wanting to stick with what she knows, it would have put me off going anywhere near another Renault... (Yes of course she keeps my balls in her handbag wink )

But, as you will read here on PH and many other places, the 2.2dci engine was just a complete and utter lemon, but by the time I found that out it was too late!
