no he said he had replaced engine the clutch serviced it and valeted inside and out

How are you paying for the work? if you can pay by credit card and it turns out to be dodgy, you can claim back via the card company if all else fails!

My 2p: When the guy arrives, as per other posts, check the chassis, engine and gearbox numbers against V5, then do a decent test drive, listening for any unusual squeaks and rattles, then get a friend to give you a second opinion, any problems, offer to pay a percentage of the bill, with the rest following after his work passes a professional inspection

This is what communities are for. A few PH'ers down there to give support would be, i would imagine, a weight off your shoulders, and a nice bit of moral support, with the added bonus of meaning he can't be aggressive, etc.

Having read this, I would be having RAC/AA present to check condition, no question. I wouldn't trust a Damascus-like conversion like this.

That way, if it did get litigious, you have a reputable company on whose opinion to rely.

good point i still dont even know wher the engine number is on it do the aa or rac come out and do this type of check one off type of thing or do i have to be a member?
