hi

i was just wondering how long it should take do an engine swap on a 2004 grand espace 2.2 dci. my espace has been in the garage for 5 weeks this friday. the garage told me before it went in 9 to 14 days i rang them on the 14th day and they said it will be the week after. i rang on the third week and they said the same agen. i rang last week and they said they were waiting on a part from france and it would be another 2 weeks. during this time they have renamed the garage and seem to have moved units. i am in nottinghamshre but the car is being fixed in essex they have a web site and advertise for work on ebay.

is ther anything i can do or is it just a case of wait it out?

thanks john

Shouldn't take that long, in fact if it is just an engine swap then a couple of days max. They're taking the piss mate

Not a good sign, I'm afraid.

Ok I think its reasonable to cut your losses. The car is worth how much in its present state? Anyone legal/has exp of this?

I think you need to ask for the car back OR offer them the shell FOC and move on.
Eh? You'd seriously just give your car up just because the garage have taken a long time to fix it? Do we even know for sure they have done any work at all?

Rather than relying on their word over the phone - can you just pop down and ask to see how your car is coming along?

Are they putting in a brand new/refurbished engine or a second hand one ?

If new then they are taking the piss, if second hand then maybe not.

We've done engine changes that have taken over a month were the customer has bought a second hand unit from a breakers that has required lots of work before it would run (on a Renault funnily enough, some parts are a right PITA to get hold of/don't turn up/are wrong etc).

It does sound like you have used the 'cheapest' company you could find on the interweb, things are cheap for a reason wink

Probably done immediately, as once that's done you are "captive" so to speak as they know you'll pay up if nothing else just to get your car back some time. Just need the calls to let you know that certain additional parts need replacing too and it makes sense to do them as the engine's out etc. and so the bill creeps up..

I really hope this gets resolved in short order with no more stress than has already come to pass for you OP, but I fear it will drag on.
