We had one of these years back, for driving around the fields in haha biggrin

Was actually quite nippy for grass-tracking.

Main reason I had it was for spares for the XR4x4 engine. The guy who had the Granny before me also had it for spares for the XR4x4 which he no longer had hehe

The Cosworth 24v ones were pretty impressive, but again, the engine was best in an XR4x4...

I do like my old Fords but these MK 3 Grannys have always left me cold... even the 24v version I'm afraid. Not Ford's finest hour IMO.

However, the 24v lump dropped into my XR4X4 would be very... nice!

Saw a Mk1 Grannie towing a caravan on the M4 last week. It was mint.

Must have been off to an 'enthusiast meet', they did look like swingers....

Yes, it was an Escort Cosworth sans wing and only rwd....pitched at the Golf VR6 sector. A guy called John Bull did a lot of evaluation miles in it but it wasn't taken up.

I went out with a Scorpio once - she was good fun too...

...screwed head & high maintenance ended that love affair though.

That'll make someone very happy when they're in dire need of locomotion and can't afford to go full-on barge hunting.

My mates dad had one of these in bright blue, back in the days when you didnt have to wear a rear seat belt. It was brand new on an F plate. He went from a BMW 7 series to that car.

I always remember when he went round a corner you would slide across the back seat!

It was very very cool and I think its a top shed!

Hmm, you may be right there, this was quite a while ago, a quick Google has revealed nothing.

It has all the right ingredients; RS, Leather, RWD and V6...... shame it's all in this.

If it was a MK2...now you're talking.

Somewhere in one of many boxes of old car mags/brochures i have got the issue of Cars and Car Conversions that featured that Escort although i do remember it being a mid metallic blue....... but the mention of a second one that was red rings a bell....

As for SOTW, i love it and i'm having to fight myself from not bidding!! Drove a mates 2.9 ghia a few times till the gearbox gave in completely, there was a stage where it would kick down at 110mph!!

I want that one! Fantastically awful shed!

Should be cheap to run (well apart from the MPG) and maintain, you can nail most ford bits onto them. A swap to a manual box and a 24v would make a nice 80's Q car, especially with a refresh of the suspension bushes!

My dad chopped bought my mum hi previous company car (1989 Audi 100 2.0e 5 cylinder - lovely car; kept for a coupl of years and sold at a profit..) for a 2.0 Granada Ghia X.

Hated every minute of it, moaned about it for the next 2 years before he could change again (went to an Audi 80 Avant which was OK and then a 318 Touring which was cracking).

mY one memory of the Granada was going on a family holiday to France and it not realy pulling properly after many hours sitting at 80-90 on the autoroute. So we took it to a Ford garage in a French village and I - with my schoolboy French - attempted to explain to their mechanic about the lack of er, va va voom. He had no clue what I was on about, so took my dad for a drive in it to see what was up. Scared my dad sh*tless and the car just sorted itself out after it had sat fot a while.

Bloody massive - and heated seats in the sub-Scorpio Ghia X - but a bit crap really. Mates dad had a Scorpio for about 10 years when as a high heid yin in a building firm he could have chopped it for something newer, guess he liked it.
