Thanks for illustrating how much the average car salesman knows about his product
What I meant to say was they used siamese ported heads on the 2.8! The 2.9 was of course better in terms of specification, with proper porting and next gen EFI, but was still rated at 150 PS, still drank fuel, and didn't drive much differently. The Cosworth modifications were almost entirely cylinder head focused, which gave better breathing, and higher output.
Siamesed heads or not, 2.8 or 2.9, the 12v engines were well off the pace.

Built a few of them for banger racing over the years. I didn't need to research it. But thanks anyway. :-)
When I say built, that's bit grandiose. More like patched up. But the heads aren't even interchangeable between the 2.8 and 2.9.
In any case, I'm not going to get too worked up about ancient Ford pushrod engines.

As for this 16mpg thing - that was posted by some fool who obviously just hates Fords, or who had an extremely broken one.
Yes, that's why I own two Fords. The 16mpg I posted in my father's 2.8 Scorpio could be coaxed up to 19 but this was round and about, not cruising. My 5.7 V8 Chevy LS1 did 20 round town.LuS1fer said:

If I remember rightly, it was also car of the year in 1987 and was the first car to have ABS as standard.
Many have rusted away now though. Shame as they were a great car.

Does the owner know his advert is SOTW ? If not do you think he's puzzled why his Ebay ad has had nearly 1,300 views and the bidding is only at £136 ?
Whats SOTW?. Price wise, my L reg went for £400 when I traded it in around 2005, so not bad I suppose, for that price, bearing in mind it's taxed and MOT'd, you could enjoy it until the first big bill came in.I throughly enjoyed owning my one, drives from Aberdeen to London on cruise control were a doddle, comfortable, lots of room.

Easy. I used to get 28-29 average but that was mostly dual carriageway and hardly ever in town.CDP said:

This is awful and I hope my kids never read this.....but I worked for a City brokerage back in the late 1990s and we had several of these old sheds sitting in the garage all being driven by pretty obnoxious old gits. Having returned from a lunch a little too well lubricated one of the old gits made dispagraging comments so I stole down to the garage opened the back door of his Granny and proceeded to lay a human walnut whip ....i closed the door and let it fester....he never found out until after i left that it was me.....
