RE: SOTW: Audi V8

On the face of it, a lovely shed - the paintwork is piffling when you consider the potential problems in the oily bits tho, so I'd look harder at those than the valance or bootlid
He says 3 instruments aren't working but doesn't say if the speedo is one of them (it's the only instrument which would mean an MOT failure?) This is probably pre-electronic instruments and so a replacement shouldn't be too much of a challenge tho (I assuming parts from same-period Audis would fit??)
Either way GOT to be worth a peek.
You wouldn't fail an MOT with a non-working speedo... The only thing that gets the wheels moving are the brake rollers. I want it now. How do you think the insurance companies will react when I ask if they'll insure an 18yo me in it?

You: I'd Like to Insure an Audi V8 4.2
Them: I'll type in the details. And how old are you sir.
You: I'm 18
Them:
But not impossible if you search around for long enough.

The speedo on my S2 was slightly intermittent and never failed an MOT. Whether is just happened to work on the day of the MOT or whether it's not checked, I don't know..It's actually a pretty common problem on older Audis, the dials tend to lift or peel at the very base of the needle which stops them from moving freely. You can pop the binacle out and carefully 'shave' the dial with a scalpel.
If it's not that, I shouldn't imagine it would be too difficult to get to the source of the problem.
Oh and I like this shed alot.
Absolutely top shed i loved the 200 back in the day, i saw one in Stratford upon Avon a while back (poss this one if there are so few left) and a mate said it'd suit me perfectly (don't know what he was trying to say!), surprised such a nice looking tank didn't sell in bigger numbers - fantastic shedding great start to the weekend
Best shed of the week in a long time!!
The figure of 4 left might be right (4.2's), but there are still a number of 3.6's around.
This is about the 10th V8 come up for sale this year.
Absolute cracking cars to drive, very nimble for such a barge of a car!
Would look better with the factory 16" BBS rims on.
Here's mine (although only a weedy 3.6!)
there's a few people over on www.classic-audi.co.uk who have these.
I've had 3 in the past 2 years. Let's face it, a working V8 for under a grand is about as good as you'll get for SOTW!!

I thought Audi still was the third choice German marque?
In all seriousness, that could be a great shed. Potentially a money trap, but for a grand, if it does go catastrophically wrong at last it's easy to walk away from!
It is, they just do the cheapest contract/leasing rates of the 3 so have unfortunately become as common as muck. In all seriousness, that could be a great shed. Potentially a money trap, but for a grand, if it does go catastrophically wrong at last it's easy to walk away from!
A shame really because they make some nice looking well built cars, but they are in the majority very dull to drive.
