DC2 ITR Recaros for me.
Supportive yes, good looking yes, but this thread is about comfortable seats, and from my experience the ITR Recaros are not particularly comfortable.

it would appear that a few can't differentiate between supportive and comfortable

The 80's/90's Porsche Sports seats:

Another vote for 80's Porsche sports seats, I've done 1000+ miles in a day without even a twinge of back or bum ache!

No good if you shop at Jacamo though....

Masseratti Grantourismo has the most comfortable seats I have ever sat in. Front or back are equally comfy IMHO

So comfortable and of course recommended by osteopaths - (and physiotherapists)
yes

The current S80 & XC90 Executive-only heated, ventilated and massage seats are more relaxing than a wk in a warm bath.

BMW's Comfort Seats in the various generations of Seven Series aren't shabby either. But very "electric", why that means a seat is disqualified from being eligible for comfort I've no idea...

L322 Range Rover seats are also a wonderful place to spend a long drive - but they may very well have been a variation on the seats referred to above, given the model's origins, perhaps a LR bod can enlighten me.

I believe the original L322's Vogue seats were same as BMW comfort seats as fitted to the e39 and e38 with the split back rest. (could be wrong though)

FACT
Agreed, my 340 was fantastic (even as a mattress on one occasion) and the Amazon's are comfy (if worn in the case of the fronts)

Most comfortable in my experience - Porsche 968! A perfect fit for me and comfortable over any distance.

Least comfortable - Series Landrover without a doubt

Seats in a Marcos - There's even a paper by a chiropractor on the web somewhere praising its seating as extremely good for your back smile

Agreed, super comfy and supportive seats and fantastic driving position, really makes you feel connected to the car. Just a shame that the lumbar adjustment on mine is knackered, might see if I can fix it somehow one day.

Really?

Granted, their surprising hardness means they're great for long distance endurance but theres more to seat comfort than that. They have such poor side support that I constantly fall out of the ones in my GT-S wink (Note - the back seats are quite exceptional for this type of car though)

In fact, I didn't buy one of these Maserati's when I first looked at them a year or so ago because of the seats and only finally gave them a chance as the rest if the car more than makes up for them. Then again, at the time I did have a car with what I reckon does have the best seats of anything I've sat in for combination of support and comfort....

Could be an urban myth, but I was told that the seats in Volvo's were recommended for the Traffic police as they suffered less back problems from being on the road all day? After doing 100k in one I can believe that.

Some of my friends are ex-traffic police and used to drive S60's and V70's on a day to day basis and thought the Volvo seats were some of the best around, and on cars that aren't priced at the premium end of the market. On a job where driving hundreds of miles in a day could be the norm you need great seats and the Volvo delivered. They also commended the seats of the 850 T5 before that. I always think when I sit down in my S60 how fantastic the seats are and how comfortable and supportive they are. Whereas in my MX5 you'd be squashing yourself into the tiny cabin and sitting in the cheap, foamy seat whilst you drove home, the Volvo is just so relaxing. I love sitting down in that car, particulalry at the end of a saturday nightshift when you know the drive home is going to be quiet and relaxed on empty roads. What a boon!

only because I plan to fit them in a different vehicle, so don't want any electrical hassle other than sorting out the slider rails to fit and getting 12volts to them if necessary. Also for example, I don't think I'd want to fit seats with airbags integral in them to a vehicle that they weren't designed for.

It's also to do with Volvos being the safest cars to have a high speed (well, any) accident in and still get out of in one piece and reasonably able to function in the immediate aftermath of such an incident. You can stack most Volvos at their top speed and the passenger cell will remain intact enought to allow normal use of the doors. It's not often you see a Volvo with the roof cut off...

Hey guys, hope this is not too much off the topic of the original post.

I have an E39 540i (truly sublime). It has very comfortable seats, ride quality - very relaxing to drive.

I'd like to find something more economical without sacrificing comfort and good posture!

I once drove a 106 and would have kept it if it were not for the 'difficult' driving position - good fun car otherwise.

Any suggestions?

Been looking at things like: Clio 172, Nissan Primera 2.2 TD, Alfa 156 JTD... quite a random mix. Budget £1-3k
