Two come to mind

- Saab 900 T16 seats (same as in 9000, but not sure)

- E39 M5. Surprisingly comfortable and supportive considering just how awful are the standard seats of most cookiing BMW's.

Think it's pretty obvious from the selection of cars, that it's the owners backside/back area that is the deciding factor in this debate, not the car seat.

Ferrari seats always look as comfortable as a tunnocks caramel wafer to me, but i've never sat in one any distance to comment further.

Saab though are very comfy. Used to do long distance in my old mans 9000 aero and the seats were by a mile the best I've sat in.

Recaro's in Honda Accord Type-R, seem just right balance of support and comfort. Still in great condition even after 130,000/11 years.

Aah, cheers thumbup

Firstly paperbag - for not recognising a 968 CS interior...must study harder..;)

I am after some comfortable race seats for my GT4 for everyday use and thought I might have had a recommendation then......thought those looked like Recaro Profi SPA seats......oh well.....does anyone know if they are Porsche's own design or are they bought in?
Pretty sure they are recaro pole positions or SPG seats.

I'd add a plus one for the fixed bucket vote; over the years i've had a few sets of recaro's, and although they are comfy seats they are not a patch on the recaro SPG i've done over 20,000 miles in. Never once had a sore back or felt in an awkward driving position
Cheers for the info smile

Hmmm, the SPG is the GRP version of the SPA - both Profi family.....which means I can't recognise a Porsche interior, but I can recognise a Recaro seat......hmmm I am great at parties me wink

Can I add a truck seat?

You car drivers don't know squat about comfy seats.

Full air suspension for shock and vibration dampening, with air-driven bladders for support.

Saab seats FTW! Even with 100k on the clock these seats are just made to last and built for comfort. You can see the Aircraft heritage coming through in the cabins and they put the tech into the seats too. Any seat that has a cooling mechanism as well as heating mechanism is the worthy winner.

I also like the Recaro's in the RS4 as they were so big and comfortable. Sat in the Pole Positions too and for trasck use they are as good as it gets.

Do you think I might need a rather large gurney bubble in the roof? laugh

Not all of them are comfortable, the 458's really aren't, and the 360 spider's aren't but the CS' carbon fibre seats...are..

MR2 Turbo Seats.

4 position lumbar adjustment
Bolster tightness adjustment
Seat height adjust

Never sat in a more comfortable OE or aftermarket seat, so much so that I'd seriously consider retrofitting one into my next car.
Exactly what I was going to say! Seriously comfortable.
yes Can happily spend all day in these seats without feeling tired.

Great things about SAABs:

Seats
Night panel
Centre console ignition
Q-Car abilities (well, the Aeros anyway)

Will be a shame when they are gone, I hope someone buys the patents/designs for the above and uses them... frown
Got to agree with you there, I've had 3 saabs of various ages and every one has been more comfortable than the last

As for the Q car part - I know several people running >450bhp on stock internals save for cams on the b234 (2.3) engine - mine was a lowly 280 - 300 depending on which tune I stuck on it. Even with the standard 225 in the 9000 aero it was quick. Bearing in mind that the tall block is the same for an lpt an hpt and an aero (the 2.0 is just a shorter stroke - can see similar power in a more rev happy package) its just a handful of parts and a map form being a monster. There's a bloke in the states running something silly like 560bhp from the 2.0 in a standard looking 9-3 convertible. That thing is batst crazy.

Sat in a jag s-type seat a few years ago and felt immediately comfortable. I can just imagine doing a long journey in them with no aches or pains.
I can confirm that - my S-Type has done a non stop Manchester city centre at rush hour to St. Austell in Cornwall with a 2 hour car park on the M6 and I was fresh as a daisy at the far end, only stopped for 5 minutes to grab a coffee in Bristol.

would you mind awfully getting me some width measurements for those, I think Ill go with yhose if I can find them and get them to fit. looks like all electrics are contained within the seat too
No problem, I'm headed to where I store my toys in the next couple of days, I'll take a tape. You're right, all of the electrickery is inside the seat, a couple of plugs and you've 3 position memory on the drivers' side and full tilt/slide. If you can find a set with non cracked elements, you're only a switch away from 3 stage heated as well - from 'have I peed myself?' warm to 'i'm sure i didn't bathe in nitric acid this morning' arse meltingly hot inside 5 miles.

The T16 seats are a quite different, but very comfy, mine were in grey velour (nice!) considerably less bolstered but no less comfy

Mine have north of 200k on them, and all it takes is regular conditioning and cleaning to keep them tip top.

Another vote for the Volvo seats which you'll find in post 2000 Volvos.

I have them in my S60 and they are incredibly comfortable, easily the best cars seats I've ever sat in. Soft enough to be comfortable over long distances and firm enough to be supportive. They're also perfectly positioned height wise too. They beat the Saab items for me because they have more support and a more luxurious feel, and thats saying something.

The seats in my Ford Focus Zetec Ebony were also very good too, far better than you would expect for the price of the car. Trimmed in full leather with heaters, they were extremely supportive and comfortable. It was like having an armchair in the car, if I'd scrapped the car when I was done with it I would have kept the seats as lounge items!

BMW's "Comfort seat" available on the 5 and 7 series they are amazing.
My E39 has a comfort seat option.

Split backrest so you can get upper and lower back nicely supported, nicely shaped head restraint that can be positioned just right to support your head whilst driving. Full electric adjustment and heating along with inflatable and moveable lumbar support.

It's like driving your nan's armchair. smile
Yes they are very nifty, My F10 comfort seats also have inflatable side bolsters to hold you nice and tight.

Once you've sat in them not much else will do.

Range Rover L322 onwards. Very nice seats.

Also thought that the Recaros used in the RS2000 16v (1991-1995) were very good. The later ones used after that were not so good. IME.

Also worth a mention, Subaru WRX / STI, Merc E Class, Tillet Seats (Caterham etc), Honda Civic Type R (2001 on) and Volvo V70 R.

HTH! smile

On a boat:

Driving on roads though has to be Vovo seats as in my old 850. Could be an urban myth, but I was told that the seats in Volvo's were recommended for the Traffic police as they suffered less back problems from being on the road all day? After doing 100k in one I can believe that.
