Is there some homologation rule for the DTM?

Could the reason it's 4 door be because it's solely built to get some parts legalised for the DTM racer?

M.
Probably
Can't see the commercial sense in selling just 65 cars, no matter how inflated the price. Who do BMW think they are - Porsche?

No doubt a great car, but a pisstake price...

.....but for such small numbers, why make £10k per car profit/contribution when you can make £30/50k and still sell them all?

The car business is a business. Never begrudge another man his dollar.

They'll sell them all. I wouldn't buy one, but enough will.

expensive cars also need to look good, this makes the GTS look a better proposition. PH Classifieds has 2 for sale.

hehe So they've made a 1.6 tonne car a whole 50kg lighter?
+1

I love that car manufacturers still have the balls to make cars purely for the enthusiast, but these mostly marketing-based models are insanity. They surely only appeal to the "Jones" type people who just want the 'best'?!

If you're going to make cars for 'us', do it properly, if not, don't bother.

I seem to recall a very similar outburst of shock when they introduced the £58k E46 CSL back in 2003. It's now a PH "must own at some point in your life" car.
I get your point, £58k in 2003 is the equivalent of approx £72k in todays money (using inflation), which adds weight to people's comments of expecting it to be in the £70-80k price range but not the £100k+ they want for it...

With the CSL now available from £22k, that is more the reason that they are a 'must own car' and then we're getting into the new versus old comparison argy bargy - I remember all road tests saying great car, rubbish brakes, much too expensive; with a bit of luck this one will drop a lot in value too.

I was wondering is this car just a taste of things to come across the M car range, maybe BMW have decided that the M brand is becoming too mainstream thus M CRT's will end up being the M cars of old.

So £117k for a GTS or £115 for the CRT.

I know which one I would get - and very tempted after sitting in the orange one yesterday at Salon Prive...

BMW is having right laugh these days with their silly M car 'special edition' pricing. Why don't they just price it at £550k since they seem to think with a big price tag, it must be special.

Suddenly the 997 GT2 looks a positive bargain in comparison.

At the moment, BMW and Lotus are living up in the clouds with their pricing strategy.
