Anyone else think you all need to grow up? A thread about Ferraris in flash hotels and all you wanna do is drive a big-green territory-taker into a pond? I mean, I do too, but you lot disgust me...
At the risk of complicating things further, I think it might be a Fjord.

I wonder if even for just a second the driver of the "Stolly" wondered if it would actually pop back up out of the water! :-)

I really apologise for being part of the de-railing of this thread. I also apologise for wanting to play with 6X6 ex-military amphibious vehicles when so much Ferrari lusciousness was the point of things.

But would anybody here, with the whole weekend ahead of us, seriously not want to go and play in one of these?????

Sorry to go O/T but can I drive that on my car license?
and sorry to continue O/T:

http://www.4wdonline.com/Mil/Alvis/Stalwart.html

Tank cap. 455 litres (91 UK gallons or around £530 to fill it)
Max. range 824 kms (515 miles)
Engine Rolls Royce straight eight B81 water cooled petrol

Around 5 MPG on land at 40/50 mph cruise and apparently you don't need an HGV licence, just deep pockets and a huge workshop.
I know a fella has one of these, takes it to military vehicle rallys and all. They are fantastic fun, great attention grabbers and have so much road presence its unreal.

However deep pockets, patience and being really quite good with spanners is necessary. The 6 wheel drive system is a nightmare! A seriously heavy duty hoist or a forklift with some chains is needed and a degree in figuring out how the hell they thought this was a good idea is quite important. As is a oxy torch for freeing stuck things. I helped him out a few times and it wasnt fun in the slightest.

Worth it though when you drive it into a river.
Running costs do look a touch on the steep side, but I would still love one. I need a bigger garage (and a lot of land, low loader, workshop, team of mechanics and a huge bank account...).

Back in the day I heard a tale that a Sapper from my unit, some years before I had joined, had gone awol in a stally in Germany.

He'd driven it across Europe and got about half way across the channel, before getting scared and turning round!

No idea if this was true or not, but do like to believe it happened.

You really can see where where Filippe is coming from can't you...a stunning showroom in a target-rich environment where money is no object, full of stunning cars, surrounded by beautiful women...whats not to like. Blows the McLaren set up into the weeds for class...and location. Different target marget one would assume...

Just a quick note on the stalwarts....

My mate had one...they're a total money pit.
Also you wont get in it if yer a bit "waistline challenged"
Finally, most of the ones for sale have had the swimmer gears removed.

The Stolly looks a bit lame in the water. I wonder if a thruster connected to that RR engine would give it a bit more pep?!! It might be a bit squirelly in the wet but I am sure the army has some jetski dudes who could keep it topside?!!
