I did think that too. For a 160 odd bhp Golf that is a good few years old? Who is he trying to kid...
If you think people are prepared to pay over £10k for a over 10 year old Impreza or £10-25k for a Audi UR Quattro or £20k for a E30 M3 or £10-25k for a Integrale than id say they aren't that offensive.

My neighbour had a black one. He chucked the engine away and stuck an audi 3.2 quattro engine in there. Went like a bomb! you could hear it growling all the way down the road. IIRC it spent more time with its gear box in the air than actually on the road but as a 16 yr old i loved the car. it was like a godzilla in sheeps skin, i think it had won fastest golf of the year award a few times. Anyways he sold it and got an r33 gtr.
Wish i was a bit older when he was selling it otherwise i wouldv taken a punt!

Theres a dark green metallic one in bits in my neighbours garage.

He's done nothing with it for years, I wonder how long it will be before it gets back on the road....

I kind of see your point but at least an Intergrale or M3 have pedigree, the Lancia winning almost every rally it entered and likewise for the M3 with regards to touring cars. The Golf? Not so much.

All the 210bhp Golf G60 Limiteds were metallic black 5drs with black leather, the small bumpers, the pale blue piping and the BBS split-rims.

Anything in a different colour has presumably been re-sprayed.
The Golf Limited is handmade by VW Motorsport in Hannover,in a mount of 71!!
so these MkII Golf is very very rare! and hard to find.
untill VW made the MkIV R32,the Golf Limited was the fastest Golf ever build.with 210bhp and 4 wd!The MkVI Golf GTI still has 210 bhp wink
All options where availible for that time like full leather interior,ABS,power-steering,4 electric window's,sunroof, electric mirror's,central locking, hight adjustable headlights,syncro(4wd),etc...
except airconditioning, because this didn't fit,no space under the hood wink
and airintake is on the same side where intercooler has to come...
Build in 1989 and 1990.Cars from 1989 has colournumber was LA7U (gun-metallic grey) and in 1990 the colournumber was LA9U (Brilliant metallic black!)
I am the owner of nr42

I know the guy who offered this Golf Rallye for Sale, this is a really nice and complete original Golf Rallye!
a Golf Rallye is this original condition is hard to find.and price is ''asking price'' and in my opinion really ''normal''!

Love 'em! Was close to buying one once but the owner bottled it and kept it, much to my loss.

Hello Pistonheads and petrolheads.

I am the owner of the rallye..

At first i want to thank Andy from pistonheads to give me this unique opportunity for the spotlight advert.

Thanks for all the reply´s
Everybody can give there opinion. Offcourse i most happy with positive reply´s and not moan about money.. purists know the value.

This car is a unique investment.
Also due to `chavs`who pimped this model is rare to find a car as standard as this one.

This is the Homologation G60 1H engine with 18cc less than the PG motorcode (this was for the homologation in that time)

Look around when you want a MK2 rallye how much NON original you find.

I agree that during VW motorsports involvement with the world rally championship it's success was quite limited due to only competing in a few rounds in 1989 Group A with around 50hp less than the majority of the competition at the time. The 16vG60 brought the power up to 300hp for the 1990 season in which I think* it won all of the events it entered/finshed with Tim O'neil driving- he won the Finish rally championship in a Rallye to.

It also won the 1991 German Rally championship, when Erwin Weber was using the car as a privateer. Mark Lovell also campaigned very successfully with the Rallye winning British Rally Championship. A rallye also won the Austrian rally championship in 1991.

All in all, perhaps not as memorable as the Intergrales in the rally scene or the E30 M3 in touring car events but it did have it's share of success during it's brief use as a VW motorsport car.

Mine is a little different - supercharged R32 engine. But I'm not a 'chav'?
In fact, I am a 42 year old professional and have never worn Burberry :-)
Anyway, do not recall seeing a 'chav Rallye' as you need a considerable investment to join 'the club'.
Mk2's on the other hand.........

Stunning Rallye and fantastic choice of engine, does it attend many shows as i cant recall seeing it.

Also agree that you can NEVER call a rallye a chavs car and i am yet to find a genuine chav driving a decent mk2 golf of any description either.

I'm not sure it was successful. Obviously 20 years ago now but IIRC very unreliable and retired early from most rounds of the British Open Rally Championship resulting in the effort being abandoned. Mostly transmission issues, driveshafts etc. Must have been very demoralising for Mark having just been let go by Ford after numerous championship wins. Certainly don't recall a championship win.

I agree there are enough enhousiasts who make the cars look stunning just like your's.. there are 4 of 70 standard rallyes in NL.
Not everyone is a "chav" who changes their own rallye but was more like an example that there are not much original cars left. (wrongly translated in my dutch brain) sorry about that...

No have not attended any show's - just finishing off. Now with 16" BBS RS's on....
Have owned more Mk2's than I can shake a stick at - my last comment was tongue in cheek :-)

I did spend a huge amount of time thinking about engine choice and worrying if the car should be kept original and am glad that cars like yours exist. However, mine was a 'keeper' and I did not have any issues with end residual or emotion. Good luck with sale!
