Sure, but the amount of 'go' would be inadequate to the 'show'. V12 is great for smoothness, but I can't imagine the tuned version reaching double mpg digits very often as opposed to LS9. That being said, considering the costs of such a conversion it's rather a moot point - being able to afford it implies not being worried about the costs of fuel.
By all means put an LS in there but just use a six cylinder car as the base model.

Spending £9k (or whatever) fitting a different engine to get more MPG does sound like some rather twisted logic.

However, it's hard to imagine that the Lister can ever have been considered good to look at

nono I disagree, looks fabulous to me. I gave it a 9.

I've only ever seen one before (a few months ago actually) and they really are stunning in the flesh.

XJS is pure retro heaven! Beautiful macho design with the beefed up lister versions. Stunning car to look at, really wonder sometimes about the people writing for pistonheads....

Surely a crazy beefed up version of the British XJS is pure pistonheads territory?

I honestly cant understand why anyone would find this car unsightly to look at?? I really cant?

Always had a soft spot for the XJS, ok that looks "Purposeful" but I prefer the lines of the original, drove a couple and they were lovely, one of those cars that didnt "feel" that fast but actually was, the old cliche about looking down and realising you were doing 100 plus mph. The Grey convertible looks nice, not sure what 500 bhp and a potentially slightly wobbly shell would be like though ? was the XJS pretty stiff for a car not originally designed to be open ?

I just did a big sex wee

I would love one of these.. however by the time I am likely to be able to afford one they will have either rotted away or the world have run out of petrol. Maybe a TWR XJS would make a good second choice, that way you get to keep the buttresses

Call me weird but I quite like the earlier example, the later one is too much.
Sacrilege it may be but finding an earlier one, doing a complete restoration and sticking an LS9 engine in... very appealing.
That would be a silly thing to do.

I've always liked the XJS (dispite being born in 1990!) the 1st one, with the the standard-ish front looks superb. And a 700bhp twin supercharged v12... lick

not pretty?? are you crazy!! this is one the most awesome looking cars ever and has the power to back it up.. one of my all time faves...

anyone seen a Koenig Competition evolution? based on the Ferrari Testarossa, beefed up and wild looking and apparently it kicked out 1000 BHP nearly 20 years before the Veyron was even thought of!!

Awesome <> Pretty.

The Lister XJSs always looked pretty uncomfortable to me and it's not improved with age imo.

Some mean engineering under the bonnet and wheel arches though. I even saw a Storm on the road ONCE!

Think I'd go for a more understated TWR one.

As for sticking in a V8 - Get your coat! biggrin

Awesome. I first saw one of these at Knockhill, it was jet black and just looked evil. I so wanted it.

Looks like a shifter in one of the pics - which 90s gearbox and clutch could cope with this torque????

Back in around 1991 when I worked in Guildford, I saw a guy park an identical red one in North St one busy Saturday outside M+S. He then walked across the road and leant on a wall and watched everyone admiring his car for about 30 minutes! Needed his ego topping up I presume. Mad car at the time though.
Things haven't changed at all you often see some special metal in Guildford on North street.

PHOAR a LOT of want for that!!!!

I have a mate with the TWR 6.0 litre - on the straight; in the dry, in top gear, at 70mph if you put your foot down it lights up the rear wheels!

I remember one of these on the driveway of a house in Pinner in the 90s. It looked terrible then and it looks no better now .

These used to be seen pretty regularly around Walton on Thames in the early 90's, does anyone know if the servicing was around there at that time? HWM perhaps?? I always used to stare and drop the windows whilst the old girl moaned at me because of the noise hehe

I love these - they were made in Leatherhead and I used to see them regularly driving around when I was in my teens and early 20's. Loved them then and still have a hard spot for them now.
