That is one awesome looking car! If I had the cash and space in the garage I would definitely have it parked in there.

I've always loved these. If I had the money I'd be all over it. Aren't they widened from the XJS as well as the bodykit?

There has been body conversions for this car, anyone remember who was offering them. I seem to remember it looked quite stunning. This was one I found.

Anything would look terrible in front of a house in Pinner.;)

By all means put an LS in there but just use a six cylinder car as the base model.

Spending £9k (or whatever) fitting a different engine to get more MPG does sound like some rather twisted logic.
To be fair, the Jaguar V12 was quite an efficient engine. The 5.3 HE engines had 12.5:1 compression ratio and could run quite lean. The only downfall to the cars fuel economy was the 3 speed automatic gearbox attached to it, but even so, you could get over 20MPG out of a run. It wouldn't surprise me by fitting a 5 or even a 6 speed manual box, or maybe one of the latest 8 speed autos (that would quite suit it actually) that over 30mpg would be easily possible.

Things haven't changed at all you often see some special metal in Guildford on North street.
Thats quite an understatement, often see Lambos, Maseratis etc but quite often some rare treats too. This is of course offset by the horrific bearded lady you often see in the same area (i kid you not)...

The XJS does seem to be getting more appreciation recently and rightly so. Next to modern cars it no longer looks that big (though there's no getting away from its length), and the angular styling that was such a contrast to the curves of the E-Type seems to have softened somewhat next to the sharp styling lines on recent cars.

The Lister really is a beast though. Seeing one of those in your rear view mirror would have you moving out the way pretty sharpish. When you consider the rarity and the performance, and against what you can pay for a top condition standard XJS, £37.5k seems pretty good value.

It's amazing how quickly cars start indicating left as soon as they see my totally standard XJS coming up behind them on a motorway. biggrin God knows what the reaction would be in one of these.

hehe the XJS does have a certain "be a good chap and move over" presence on the road. I seem to get tailgated in mine less than I do in other cars too, so much so that I kept checking the brake lights worked for the first week.

I hate getting XJS' behind me - the driver is likely to be so old they might delay their braking in an emergency or their slippers might jam under the brake.

I'm getting the impression that since we led with the pic of the early car that people reasonably assume that's the car which I think is vulgar.

I was actually referring to the car which is for sale - the front end of which looks to me like they took the earlier design and gave it the automotive equivalent of a briss.

If however the consensus is that the later car still looks the business then I concede I'll have book an emergency appointment with Specsavers wink
