This, no one seems to know what they are even petrol heads. Its taken 3 pages on this topic for it to get mentioned.
Having said that that’s one of the main reason I have one myself, I like that fact people don’t know what it is.
First gen or second gen?

I have never driven a car that is more effective at overtaking on the A32 through the Meon Valley...

Bookmarked for future car buying ideas!

I like the practical-yet-fun concept of hot hatches, but I think the sheer numbers that some of the mainstream GTIs were produced in takes a little away from them. Somehow something a bit more leftfield like an Alfa 145 Cloverleaf or a Suzuki Ignis Sport is just that little bit cooler than the usual suspects.

Fiat Stilo Abarth 2.4 Selespeed. Don't think there's many of them about, and they're freakin' quick! A friend of a friend has one, but sadly, his is a nacker.
Selespeed's are sh*te!

If someone has one with a spanish box, that would be much better.

The fact you see maybe one for every 30 Civic Type Rs? Rare enough to turn your head, certainly.
And yet there's at least 2 people on this thread with one. I'd rather read about something a bit more obscure; most of my thoughts have already been mentioned, but Maestro Turbo, Uno Turbo, Alfa 145 Cloverleaf, mk1/2 Scirocco, that sort of thing.
As an owner, I completely agree with Twazzock. Its not unusual enough.

However, Riggers - would you want a nice, standard, class leader as a comparison?

How about a Nissan Micra?

Misleadingly called the 160SR, it actually only has 110bhp, so perhaps more 'warm' than 'hot' hatch, but certainly unusual. There was a thread about them recently, it was the first I'd heard of them but one or two people popped up and admitting to owning one. I believe there was also a twincharged one in the 90s (SuperTurbo?)

Could you call a 306 GTi-6 an underdog? Still can get overshadowed by a 205 GTi!!!
