Actually, it's not a spoiler as such, no areo benefits from what I was told. It's there to blank out the top portion of the rear screen due to the height of the boot spolier, all to do with some DTM regulation.
Slight correction if i may its there to feed the rear spoiler because at high speed it created far more drag than downforce (couple occasions without the roof spoiler the rear wing created high speed instability/lift). The roof splitter was on racing versions BMW and other saloons of similar era too. Later it became an advertising board lol Dagnut said:
So rare, has anyone on here actually owned one? Seen plenty of EVO 1's but I've never seen one of these on the road
I've owned one - brought from a dealer up near Norwich (I think he's got the one at 47k for sale) around 6 years ago for......wait for it.....£20k & with 20k miles on the clock . It was one of the original cars supplied in the UK.It had always been one of my childhood "must-haves" - my father has always been a Merc man and I'd been given a book at a dealership when I was younger with a picture of a 190 Evo II in it.
Echo the comments on the steering being excellent in feel and smoothness - no idea where the "lacking in feel" comes from. The car didn't feel the fastest, but it seemed to pick up speed very quickly (with little sensation that you'd be doing it). Overall it was the ride quality that I remember the most - just so smooth - the car came with three level suspension settings activated by a switch on the dash and I think this innovation afforded it such a good ride quality. You could gallop along on the motorway and would be the perfect car for continental travel.
I took the car on the track also (up a Bedford), which it coped very well with and no issues. Only problem was the cost of any parts - I cracked the exhaust on a speed bump (it was somewhat corroded - not picked up in a Mercedes Benz inspection - but that's another story) and to replace the back section the a Merc Part was £900 - the rear wing is £3k etc etc.
So I sold it after only three months of ownership - made a few quid out of it, but it possibly is the biggest car based regret I've ever had - will be back into one at some point....

I'm sure a lot of you already know, but just to clarify, only the 2.3 had a Cosworth developed head; for the 2.5 Merc claimed the credit for themselves.
Oh that's fun considering they share the same partnumberETA http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_W201
I could only find headgaskets numbers matching but pretty sure Evo2 i drove had a Cosworth stamp on its head

Owned one back in 1995, having had the pleasure of driving a friends who had ordered one from new. I had previously owned a 2.3 and 2.5 standard version, with an e30 m3 in the mix, this was the one I had to have, so after a search, I located a low mileage example in Germany. At the time, Rude mercs, as they were called, were dishing out bodykits to 190 owners and a evo 2 kit was made available, along with sec style grills and chrome arches etc etc, so to the unknown, you looked what one would call a chav now, (I must hasten to add, I never purchased any such part from them) As previously mentioned, it was not over quick, but quick enough and was a car I could use very day, with the adjustable suspension, bullet proof engine and 4 seats, which could take the baby seat and a boot for all child related needs. Mine never missed a beat, however I was at the stage of changing cars quick often and a 911 became the center of my attention. Looking back, I wish I could have the car, as its something that was/is special and would have appreciated over what I paid back then, not to mention the fact, I have never seen one in the flesh for the last 10 years at least.
I used to own one....it had an EVO registration number with very low mileage around 20k......I bought it second hand for £20K and sold it about 3 years later for £28k or thereabouts...that was maybe 14 years ago, it was an amazing car although by my Merc c63 modified by Kleeman for 540-bhp is somewhat quicker, but no so eye catching...as usual sold too early like my Ferrari Lusso which I sold for £8500 !!! I could cry !!!!
