How does anyone with one of these (or the E39 like mine), drive them "enthusiastically" whilst wearing normal clothes?

If I take a right hand bend at anything over pedestrian walking speed I all but end up in the passenger seat.
My E39 has Sport Seats and this has never been an issue.

Left hand bends I have to make sure the window is up or I'll self eject.

They're very comfy seats when going in a relatively straight line, but god, they had sod all lateral support and are as slippy as heck.

Do you all wear rubber fetish clothes or wetsuites when driving?
The sport seats in mine do a good job of hugging you in if you drive in a spirited fashion. You'd be surprised - I took it to a track day before and the handling was great, of course the general size and automatic gearbox were not so great...

Oh and I will definitely concede that wet roads do not mix at all with driving enthusiastically.

I do love these, but are they the kind of car that is worth having for low mileages, i.e. do they just soothe and waft or can they do excitement ?

There are a lot out there but I don't know why people saw the brochure and thought "Yes, Baby Poo beige interior, that will look great", though PHers seem to have all got the nice colour/trim/wheel combos judging by the photos.

O/T, I'd quite like the plate off the E38 on my Integra scratchchin

Fancy selling?
Belongs in the 'Real Chav Plates' thread, that one....
Only in as far as how it's spaced, and I wouldn't have it set out as such.

How much did you pay for the plate, HON2A?

I rarely get to drive it these days as I have a company car (diesel X1 of all things) forced upon me, already been told off for using the e38 for work... Considering the road tax for it here in Ireland is €1600 per year and I'm paying twice that in company car tax I should really sell it, but the thought of that breaks my heart. Here it is:
Lovely car - why not just sell it to yourself - surely that would be WAY cheaper for everyone!?

Mine obviously doesn't have the sports pack then.

Seats have no side support and suspension is more comparable to a whale.

It does make a lovely contrast to the ZX10 bike and Boxster though, and as it's a shed it gets left out in all weathers, used when I'm feeling crap and want to drive something easy and slow (me slow that is, not it), and I don't care about parking dings, and has *HEAPS* of space in the back and boot for kitchen sinks smile

Black leather isn't for everyone - it makes for a darker/less welcoming interior and it shows-up damage sooner too.

I don't mind the darker shades (oatmeal - or baby poo if you prefer), the only thing which makes me run a mile are the lighter 'beige' shades or GOD FORBID, WHITE!!

I have a very last of the line 2001 740i Sport. Amazing cars but as others have said they are not cheap to run. The cabin is truly a lovely place to be and the overall feel of the car is majestic.

Mine:

We took it over to the continent and it performed admirably in clearing the motorways with great ease.
That. Is. Stupendous. bow

Potentially my perfect 7er!

When I was 13 years old I had a paper round. My highlight was delivering to the house that had a 740i finished in a ridiculously turquoise colour and the multispoke alloys. Just... cloud9

226k? Wonder if all the bits that could have gone wrong have been replaced? But then for £600 it's even more 'run it til it dies' viable.

Given his name, I'd say it is a very good 'plate. smile

Beige doesn't seem to be very fashionable at the moment and I really don't grasp why. I always choose the lighter colours for the interior, they are so much more inviting and feel more luxurious. Walnut goes well with beige and the spray painted plastic bits so many cars come with just look cheap.
BMW's beige is a really nice beige too; I like it and the interior parts on the 7 Series are high quality so won't feel cheap. Very light beige (magnolia) is my favourite beige though.
Black is forgiving of poor quality which is presumably why manufacturers like it so much. A car with a black interior would have to be seriously cheap for me to consider it. I like little wheels too. smile

Good to hear, I agree. I think by this time next year I'll be in a 530 or if I'm brave a 540, in Sports guise of course. Two conditions really, it can't be silver and I'm going manual biggrin I don't know how a 530 compares to a 528 to be honest. I'll probably be in the market for a late 2002/ early 2003. The 528 is worth a grand of anyone's money, probably end up belonging to my father which will be nice.

It does look good for its age. For all we know they could all have been very kind miles at 70 on a motorway. I think the public ignorance to high mileage cars is great! Makes them a hell of a lot cheaper for us lot smile
