Slight correction of original article - the 750iL in the James Bond film was actually a 740iL rebadged for the film.

Not a lot of people know that.

LOVE mine. It even handles extremely well on the Nordschleife. Steilstrecken in de wet? Full-lock drifting in total comfort.

Going to fabricate a LSD for it and then it'll be perfect.

Great shed! Can't believe they have fallen into shed territory. I'd recomend to anyone buying an E38 that you get a 1999 (or newer) facelifted model as they (generally) had parking sensors, updated headlights, better alloys, more safety equipment and a few licks of chrome here and there. Massive fan of these things, the quality, the quietness even the most hardened BM hater would struggle to pick fault with these.

I'm a real sucker for Italian stuff, but these are very nice. I've always loved the clean lines to these, very understated and so much more classy than their recent efforts.

Look to the left of your original post, just above the post count, what do you see?

Nice shed this week, had a couple of E39's but never had a 7.

That very good, is it a nikasil bore engine (problems) just waiting to bite the bargain hunter?

Very funny. Go and tell it to one of them, I give you 15 seconds before they insert a hand in your backside and use you as a sock puppet.

They're the wrong size tyres. Not suprising when you consider the price and availability of OE spec. I see plenty of E38's on the lower rungs of the ladder with 3 & 5 series wheel and tyre combos.

Shed neglected to mention that being the earlier 4.0l version, it's susceptible to nikasil. As such, these are largely unloved (which is a shame as it's still a great engine) because of the documented issues.

I had a later 740 and it was a great car. Thirsty, though.
Darn you SOTW, you always chose cars on my bucket list (even Pumas')increasing my motoring itch.

The Nikasil problem can be a benefit though as lot's of BMW's had new short blocks fitted courtesy of BMW. My E36 328 has had one so the engine's done a mere 165K compared to the 195K of the rest of the car.

The newer 7'ers after the E38 have tons of computers, each needing fibre optic cable uploads to reprogramme them. My indy hates them as if the load goes wrong then more often than not the entire computer is junked and a new one at x grand is needed.

Additionally once one of them is reprogrammed then all the rest need to be done as well to get them all to play nicely.

And most of the newer ones are stty diesels.

I think it's time for the winds of change! How about upping the budget?

Blame inflation, blame the scrapage scheme, but I think 2k would see a lot more diverse and interesting metal

PH still haven't done the Fiat Coupe yet, which are available at less than a grand and would make a great shed. Anybody else want to see a Fiat Coupe shed?
