My wife got pulled by a bored police man for having a space in the incorrect place. Can we have a plate with no spaces? As above, slightly confused by Garlik's post on the now closed "Spotted! Real Rubbish Chav Number Plates" thread.

The DFT were doing a consultaion over the summer but I haven't heard any official updates. Any links/updates appreciated.

Nothing has changed recently about the spacing of number plates. Rules still apply despite the comment made in the Sunday Times earlier in the year.

You would have absolutely no argument on that front as they will simply say you should have used a yellow stud, not a black one.

My personal opinion.. spacing is a slim maybe, the screws issue, no chance. Any changes that come in will be compatible with existing ANPR systems. Personally I wouldn't hold my breath on this one.

I pasted a copy of correspondence I'd had with DfT where they had confirmed that they were running a consultation with relevant stakeholders regards spacing. It's not PH rumour, it's a fact.
