Lovely grey McLaren MP4-12C in Northchurch, Berkhamsted the other day. Owner used to have a CLK55 which I used to see a lot.

tigerkoi said: Yeah, some car that. I fronted this one up in Vol II (I think), and if you can gauge the number of posts in between, and time, then the odd thing is it looks like that has been sat there, literally for years - well I certainly haven't seen it move. And if that's the case...then...how sad.
As is well known, its a 1/3, and like I read in my big, colourful, coffee table book on Aston Martins, then like all the 'Skunks Works' specials the jigs, moulds and design knowledge around these, the Series I and the dead-in-the-water Series III, were all destroyed. More to customer contractual arrangement than anything.
Funny street is the Avenue. You've got the lovely Cape Dutch style houses at the junction/intersection (one was used in a season of 'The Apprentice'), which for me are the prettiest of the lot, but the rest of the street is full of superlatives. I believe Mittal still owns 'Summer Palace', 'Toprak' is now 'Royal Mansion' (£40m) after that Turkish banker went bankrupt. 'Palladio' sold for £36m, and I think Richmond Desmond is still 'OK' somewhere on the strip.
For sure some are absolutely gaudy and keep Glentree Estates in business with constant residency churn, as Gracie Fields and Billy Butlin give way to diamond tycoons and Qatari Emirs...but for me it's some of the tired old mansions that sit, rotting away, with that giveaway top anteroom light that signifies the housekeeper is in....
Many might have heard of the Greek businessman, Aristos Constantinou who was shot dead in his house on New Year's Eve, in 1985. Seven silver bullets did the trick. Brother blamed the wife, and it all got terribly messy. The missus fled to Cyprus. But if you find yourself wandering along, the most intriguing house, is a white, simple two story flat fronter, set back behind the outmoded circular driveway. For years the gates have been locked, weeds sprouting up, paintwork darkening, and an old Allegro sat there sinking into it's rims. In the late 80s the owner, Alec Hubbers, in his 70s, tanning himself on the South of France, was caught by his mistress in bed with his other mistress. She was of course feeling a touch let down, and when he announced that she was firmly in the past, the result was that she gave his head a tap with a champagne bottle. Obviously expectations weren't being met. Net result: an intestate will, and a prime piece of real estate just weathering the many seasons, unloved. Suddenly, the street has become more interesting with its sordid tales and interesting history.

Revisiting Astus Horibilis from a few days ago, the expression, "Our kid's first attempt," went through my mind.
