I seem to remember that it was reported that he crashed at high speed deliberately, taking his two passengers with him.
How would anyone know that?

On the news that Rowan Atkinson is in hospital, but not serious. Hurt his shoulder and should be out today.

An irreplacable car and an irreplacable person. At least we didn't lose both.

Hopefully the Composite chassis has done it's job, although all forces will be relayed straight to the driver with such a strong and stiff chassis.

As already said McLaren will be able to rebuild that with relative ease.

Hope Mr Atkinson is OK. That will be Woking bound then.

so is the F1 officially the most crashed production car ever, as a percentage of those produced?

Cant believe someone said McLaren did the world a favour by the death of Christopher Dawes!!! Thats not nice is it?

From memory, (and what was written in the press ) he sold his IT business for in excess of £20,000,000 and spent quite a lot on fast cars. He also "apparently" got involved in drug trafficing, one time requiring to flee his plush mansion by helicoptor to evade some heavies who were coming through the front door... I think he was fronting cash for the deals, not actually doing it himself.

I think he crashed McLarens own demonstrator (silver one?) which was on loan to him while his own one was still being constructed. He overtook several cars at once ( some reports were wet roads, some not )and lost it hitting a tree. All 3 occupants died, the car went up in an inferno due to the magnesium, not nice. Allegedly he was driving like a dick, but again only what I read in the papers at the time. Maybe he wasn't a particularly nice chap, but even so.

I remember about a year after being in Caterham Cars showroom in Surrey, and there being a quite awesome Caterham JPE in flourescent yellow, being sold off by his estate. Cant remember too many details but it had been tuned further that standard so he liked his fast cars.
