Peloton25 said: I'm fairly certain that of the 106 that were built in total, including GTRs, LMs and GTs, that we've lost a total of 6. XP1 - first prototype, crashed and burned in the Namibian desert during development testing XP2 - MIRA crash test car, later crushed - 004 or #005 - crashed by a mechanic in Brunei, salvaged for parts only according to sources
- 010 - crashed by Bernd Pischetsrieder, then President of BMW and "written off"
- 017 - crashed by Christopher Dawes on a rain slicked road in Essex. He and his two passengers perished in the ensuing fire
- 033 - crashed by it's German owner on the Autobahn. He chose not to have McLaren repair the car and instead ordered a new one.
There are a lot of others that have been crashed, even a few multiple times like this one, but as far as I know the rest have been repaired leaving us with 100 total F1s in existence today. >8^) ER Just to put the record straight I lived near the #017 one at the time, and that stretch of road wasn't rain soaked and it was straight uphill. He was driving like a t t, and not many people mourned his death. A horrible man by all accounts, who was awaiting drug charges and escaped a rape charge. Just in case there was some sympathy.. the McLaren did us a favour on that one ETA: Having now googled the incident, maybe my memory is fading, seems rain did play a part. Even so the rest I stand by

On the news that Rowan Atkinson is in hospital, but not serious. Hurt his shoulder and should be out today.

An irreplacable car and an irreplacable person. At least we didn't lose both.

Hopefully the Composite chassis has done it's job, although all forces will be relayed straight to the driver with such a strong and stiff chassis.
As already said McLaren will be able to rebuild that with relative ease.

Even so the rest I stand by Yes, I knew that half of the story as well but usually leave it out when mentioning that crash. Regardless of how it happened or the other things going on in his life at the time his two passengers were likely very innocent victims in all of it. I have some news video footage of them hauling away the wreckage and other than one magnesium wheel that was partially burned there wasn't much left that would allow anyone to identify the car as an F1. A real shame for anyone to lose their life like that. >8^) ER

so is the F1 officially the most crashed production car ever, as a percentage of those produced?
