Actually, surely that's too cheap for the age/mileage being it's sat at a trader. Most comparibles seem to be £1500 or more? What's wrong with it? Any Audi beards in the house?

Am I seeing rust on the RHS of the arch of the pic of the alloy?

The interior pic cleverly misses the entry side of the drivers seat and the carpet.

I bet you would be disappointed if you drove oooop north to look at that....

But of course it does. A £50 job would eliminate that as an issue and then it would be working perfectly. Surely that would be done, no?

Yes you are, but that's smll potatoes surely? This car is less than 900 quid but most others of comparible age/mileage seem to be a lot more. My spidey sense is tingling.

Bloke claims to sell classics and just wants rid of this 'modern car' as it's not his thing.

If you google the phone number you get a lot of hits for eBay listings of conventional metal (VW, Audi, Toyota, Honda) - but no classics scratchchin

The £650 W140 S280 that I bought last week has successfully completed the 1500 miles or so round Scotland that I bought it for. Same price as a hire car and anything extra now is a bit of a bonus.

To be fair to it, it did it with ease and without any hint of a problem - and long may that continue. Although its only the baby 280 its still incredibly smooth and certainly powerful enough as to not embarrass itself. smile
Glad to hear it smile

What was the fuel bill like over the distance?

Its quite hard to calculate as one of the 'characteristics' of the car is that it wont quite fill to full - about 7/8ths is the max I can get in the tank and its slightly different every time.

On flat ground Mway cruise it did 530 miles to 7/8th of a tank which equates to roughly 30-35mpg. On the twisty Scots roads with all the hills it dropped to around 22-25mpg. Im really chuffed with that, for a heavy old thing its not bad at all. My previous Jeep was lucky to see 25mpg on a 60mph cruise so this is a very big improvement smile
30-35 mpg is about what my Megane gets on a run. That said, my Meg probably weighs as much and comes with a similar, if not higher, spec (the first owner must have had a thing for depreciation)

Obviously lacks a certain something that the S-class has mind

Lee, I'd be inclined to swerve yon body with all possible vigour away from vendors for whom basic grammar is/was just something that happened to other people.

I do, however, find your optimism a wonderful thing by your employment of the term "impending" when those of us who avariciously consume the "Dear Laird" diaries read a reality intro "just recently f'cked." hehe
