That really is a shed. Whoever alluded to flushing your money down the loo was right - you'd get about 2 corners into your first track outing before it went pop, bang, or snap. No crackles to be had here I doubt

So that's a poorly painted, badly running, mis-handling, uneconomical, leaking, potentially exploding 22 year-old Toyota?

Now, where did I put that barge pole...

As far as it goes, that's so bad I feel the need to post my own SOTW.

Seriously gyuys, that's aweful (unlike the barge above, which is awesome)
Yawn, yet another barge. Those are cheap for a reason - not enough OAPs with a financial deathwish around. smile
As opposed to trackday goers who have an actual death wish.

Because they have an engine in the middle, don't breakdown every 2 minutes, good fun to drive and are cheap to improve/maintain/buy. Also in certain flavours it is the best bang for buck money can buy. A Mk1 V6 certainly doesn't hang around.

I'd probably pay a bit more to get a slightly tidier one with a standard camry ECU as mapping is an expensive business when you cannot do it yourself. However great project for someone with the knowledge.
I checked your profile and expected the MR2 tongue out
I see that they're good cars (probably, never had any experience with one) but I just wouldn't ever buy one. Nothing stands out for me.
And over the last 5 years or so they have become very 'chavvy' boxedin

Really?! I dont think you'll find any/many AW11's owned by 'chavs'.. SW20's are all owned by Chavs but not the little AW11.

"Oh, and if you do buy it, do let us know where the engine was originally installed..."

Presumably where the gap was where the old engine used to be?

Golf GTI, Renault 5GTT, Nova GTE, Escort RS Turbo, Fiesta RS Turbo all of them have gone through a 'chavvy' (hate that word) phase. Yet see one now in good condition with original bodywork (can do what they like underneath) it's a rare sight and great to see them on the road. Things are heading that way for the Mk1 for sure.

As far as stand out cars they are vastly underrated cars. They can go like st off a shovel, be reliable and certainly turn heads.
All I can say is try driving one, a lot of opinions have changed including my own from personal experience! smile

Poor show Shed, this is a nail and no mistake. Who sells such a project still 'requiring work' or 'simple fixes'? Owners knowing they've fked it up, that's who.
Indeed, someone has invested at least a lot of time in this one, but is now cutting their losses.

There's a reason it's cheap.

Always had a bit of a soft spot for the MR2 (prefer the looks of the MK2 however).

Unfortunately I can't say the same for this week's shed though - I wouldn't touch the damn thing with a bargepole! In fact, I doubt a bargepole would give you enough safe distance from the thing as it went up in the inevitable massive conflagration.

It sounds like it's got a good spec list... I might be being a bit unfair here, but it just doesn't seem very well nailed together.

On the plus side, I quite like the colour!

What a bunch of girls most of you are.

Its a great shed with a well known engine conversion and an expensive ECU included.

I have no doubt it'll need sorting out but that's the fun bit.

Its then more fun harassing the aforementioned girls in their "nice" cars.

I've bought loads of this stuff over the years and as long as you are prepared (and able) to do some work the smiles per £ are unbeatable.

it's a shed but a good start if you want a v6 mr2 - and they are a blast. Obviously priced for someone who has the time and the tools to make it right.

lol on handling comments. go drive one.

I was after a MK1 SC when I got my Mk2 Turbo from Japan. Rare to find a good one, but I'd rather wait for the SC than get an unfinished jobbie for a grand. Done right, I bet it would be a right hoot, mind. The problem is getting it done right.

I have to say i do like the Mk1 Mr2.........

But this one sucks donkey dick. Mainly because of this V6........ now if it was a turbo conversion now we would be talking!!!

With a little bit of tiding im sure it could be ok. But needing mapped...... i wouldnt touch it.

I will admit to ignorance on that one - but I've followed a couple round wet roundabouts, and watched them nearly spin smile

Also, AFAIC any mid-engined car is potentially prone to swapping ends suddenly - it's simple physics, isn't it?

Can any of the MR2 haters, as it were, point me towards a mid engined, rear wheel drive car for under £2k? Or even a sub 6 second one (turbo) for less than £4k? What? The Elise I hear you say? You won't find a road worthy Elise for less than £6.5k.

So criticize the mk1 and mk2 MR2 all you want, for the money there's no rival.

I reckon the naysayers are just scared of getting their nice shiny spanners out and getting them dirty biggrin I think it does genuinely just need sorting and could be fun for someone who doesnt thinkthe best tool for fixing cars is a credit card and is not afraid to spoil their manicure, this is in the great tradition of tinkering and could make a quick track car.
