Spotted: '04 Koenigsegg CC8S

Veyron performance for £240,000? It almost sounds like a bargain...

Believe it or not, if you're in the market for a Koenigsegg this is as modestly-priced as they come. An 'entry level' Koenigsegg if you like. Stunning looking thing though, isn't it?

This is one of just eight originally made by the aspirational Swedish firm, who built just two of those eight cars in right hand drive guise. Of course if you wanted to pose in this one around the Riviera then right hand drive isn't what you need, but worry not, the factory will gladly convert it to left hand drive... for another 40,000 Euros.

So we're talking big money here, but with 650bhp on tap there is serious performance to be had too - especially when you consider that this particular CC8S was sent back to the factory and upgraded to the point where it reputedly delivers 802bhp.

Consider also that it weighs around 1175kg and you can see why the vendor describes the performance as 'utterly terrifying - probably quicker than a Veyron'. This isn't hard to imagine given that even before the power output was raised the CC8S had a superior power to weight figure than the Bugatti... And since the motor is based on an American Ford V8, routine servicing can be carried out at most UK motorsport specialists who are familiar with them. (Cough. They all do that sir...)

Running costs are, of course, expensive. This car apparently went back to the factory for its major engine overhaul in 2008 at a cost of 21,000 Euros - which is a lot of money, but in terms of horsepower per pound it's actually not that bad. It has to be said though, that with a total recorded mileage of just 4,400 one can't help but wonder just how often it's going to need such an outlay. Then again, we're talking about hypercars here so that's beside the point - unless of course you're planning a 4,500 mile trip around Europe.

If rarity and exclusivity is your thing then look no further. However if you are willing to sacrifice some of that performance and exclusivity you could always go for something altogether more pedestrian like a Murcielago LP640 Roadster and save yourself £40,00 - which you could spend servicing and running the Lambo' for a few years.

(Yep, when an LP640 becomes your 'practical' option, you know you're doing something right... Ed.)

Like the Zonda the CC range was always best in its earliest iterations without all the addenda to ruin its lines. Amazing looking thing in the flesh, has a purity missing in almost everything else.

I wholeheartedly agree. This:

Is an utterly gorgeous shape, much nicer than the Agera.

Not desperately keen on the steering wheel. Am I being picky?? Yup! smile

Great car though. I'd be very happy with one in black.

Agreed, same with a lot of supercars. The Murcielago is a prime example of this, looked fantastic in original guise, then little bits kept being added here and there, and then you end up with the monstrosity that is the SV.

The Murcielago is different IMO. It started off a far too Audi and they seem to have tried to add the 'Lambo touch' which hasn't really worked. Lamborghini need to be more outrageous from the start.

The CC8S just works as it is.. Great car.

Looks pretty stunning to me too with performance to match , never like the wheels much though , think I'd change them if I ever was in that fortunate position .

Some people may disagree....

I personally LOVE the Murci SV, and I think the Agera is quite a smart looking supercar too. They're only changing the design so that it doesn't get stuck in the dark ages. I agree that some add-ons can just look tacky and knock back the look of a car on the whole. BUT, there needs to be some differentiation from one upgrade to the next. IMO of course.

I've always thought these stunningly ugly cars, but that's quite a nice colour.

Was the 4,400 mile 'overhaul' for a power upgrade?

If not, what's the effing point of a hypercar that can't go that far between rebuilds??????

Buy a used F1 car or a dragster if you just want stupid speed (around corners or in a straight line, respectively) and save yourself a fortune!

It's a good looking beastie, but when you start looking at the details, it seems little more than an Ultima in a posh frock. Ie; generic tacky kit car rear lights, generic tacky kit car switches/buttons, generic tacky kit car fuel filler, stack dash etc etc

You could build a 1000hp Ultima using a crate engine for almost 1/3rd of the cost of this (though I'm sure 500-600hp would more than suffice in one of those) and end up with a similar, though quicker, product.

Is that mileage right then? Surely ever a hypercar hire car (Hire-per-car?) would get used more than that?

Aren't these catastrophically unreliable? I recall a thread in the FM&B forum stating this...
