Looks great are these rear wheel drive? im thinking 2.0 red top turbo make a retro drift machine lol
Yes, rear wheel drive. Given my experience, they would drift nicely given more power.

Not sure how well these would work as a drift machine as none came with limited slip diff.

Mine drifted off the road, down a hill into a ditch landing on its side. :0

Does it make me an egomaniac to ask if my previous misunderstood comment on the Caravelair (basically jokingly comparing a love of schmaltzy caravans with nostalgia for British Leyland) in the Austin SOTW thread a couple of weeks ago spawned this, incidentally pretty cool shed choice? It was never my intention as I think 70s Vauxhall/Opels are cool, as is clear below, but I'm glad to have helped! If the choice is not connected, then please allow me to labour on in ignorant narcissistic glory! smile

End part of that exchange below:

What's a Caravelair ?

If you mean a Cavalier, they didn't appear until 1975 and spawned the Manta, Manta 400, Ascona etc.

Shed is about generating interest, you don't need to want it, it wouldn't be much of a feature if it were just crowd pleasers, and at a grand you would run out pretty soon, it is about motoring heritage as much as anything, this is a thirty five year old car and to me it seems churlish to slag it off now, its like having a go at a Pensioner for not being good at break dancing.
The holy grail of caravans!

I think I specifically made the point that the fact that it generated so much conversation makes it a worthwhile subject before saying why I think the car's rubbish. I'm not that much of a moody g%t!

And surely, it will never be too churlish to slag off a BL. smile

Was there a snide dig at the Calibre at the start of this article, I don't think they were that bad!

Absolutely love it!

I was a big fan of the manta as a kid and this is just as cool IMHO.

Would love to buy it and turn it into a retro rocket with a 2 litre turbo conversion or try and shoehorn a big 6 in.

I didn't think any were left, didn't like them in their day or any Vauxhall for that matter. In an odd way it looks quite cool now.

Mate had one and I remember when we were going pretty fast, hit a bridge, got some air and landed pretty heavy, when we landed it set the tape player off and it was some hard rock music. Quality!!!!!!

I've just sold mine back in May, a very fetching Canary Yellow! Miss it like mad! Here is a link to my ownership history of it.

I want it back... frown

Looks bloody awesome, imo much nicer than the Manta which I never found to be good looking. I remember seeing a few Mantas kicking about in the late 90's but couldn't tell you last time I saw one of these, probably early 90's

The Manta coupe' was the one to have, the Vauxhaul looked better in the hatch form (but still not as good as a Manta B coupe')

You may note that I wasn't asking a question which required a yes/no answer; I was making an informed opinion. 103ps in a lightweight hatch with handling that was universally praised at the time, capable of 0-60 in 8.6seconds (GTi SE) is going to make a standard Manta GT/E look pretty mediocre.

Which mag got the MPI Metro Gti to 60 in 8.6 seconds? Autocar managed 9.8 for the same car with 8bhp less in 1990 - 0-60 in 9.8 back in 8/8/1990 ( dry tarmac ). The multi point injection one was only a smidge faster. I'm sure on a twisty enough road the Metro might have pulled a gap - on faster roads I doubt it would lose the cheaper, faster car

Always thought the manta should have had the 24v senator engine as an option/spec.

Was almost out of production by the time that engine came along - Irmscher did an i300 though with the 12v

Yeah i remember it. Just thought tht 24v would have been a good one to see in there, more in keeping with the style and size of shell.
