Brand new A3 breaks down... Dealer then goes Golfing in it..

Another interesting angle would be that of driving without insurance. The owner's wouldn't be covering it as no permission was given and I think it highly unlikely that the dealer's trade insurance would cover a Sunday social trip in a customer's car, again without permission.
A very simple case to give to the local plod.

Clearly the driver would be uninsured, no?

But as well go guns blazing requesting a new car then negotiate down from there...
Again, I am amazed. A new car? Soovy is right, someone gets a bking, owner gets a clean car, an apology and maybe a service. All is well.
This is getting a bit excessive in my opinion, I blame no win, no fee
New car indeed.....

Stop being sensible. You are ruining the excitement of us getting our backs up...Soovy is right, someone gets a bking, owner gets a clean car, an apology and maybe a service. All is well.

What is above is more realistic (most of what has already happened) unless she goes nuts with letters etc

Update...
It was the Service Manager that had taken it home to use for the weekend! And yes, he had indeed been golfing in it!
He grovelled extensively on the phone this morning.
They are collecting the car off her, giving herva courtesy car and then they will give the car a full valet to remove any trace of the 18 hole course, plus replace the backs of the driver/passenger seats that have been scuffed by shoes from people in the rear seats.
I don't believe that - I reckon the service manager has taken the rap to save it going any further and stop the owner from thinking it was driven by a hairy-arsed mechanic. It was the Service Manager that had taken it home to use for the weekend! And yes, he had indeed been golfing in it!

What sort of "prestige" dealership service manager would leave a car in that state? It just doesn't ring true. If it is true, then he should be fired.
Agree with a couple of other posters though - talk of having the car replaced is too ridiculous for words.
Several years ago I had my Passat taken out for a 36 mile trip and later I found out someone had seen it being thrashed during this time. The dealership valeted the car and apologised but that was about it. If I had been able to prove the car had covered the mileage or had been thrashed I wouldn't have accepted a free valet, I would have gone with the TWOC option.
Now when dropping my car to the dealerships I always ask them to make a note of the milage (as I do myself) and that the car is not to be driven without me present and they do not have my pemission to take the car for a test drive, if they do I will consider it TWOC and report it to the police. That said I don't often use dealerships, just a local garage I've been using since I was 19, I'm now 31 and I have no objection to them test driving my car as all employees are mature and treat the car with respect.

True. Although I doubt he 'stole' the car in the eyes of the dealer (although they won't admit it). He'll be insured. Clearly the driver would be uninsured, no?
In my time at a dealership the SM would occasionally take cars home to see if problems persisted, especially cold start issues. He did his usual weekend/ evening driving too.
I was in sales so I'm not sure how much/ if permission was granted, but it certainly wasn't unusual (in 94-98 at least).

I would call the bluff and say I have golf course CCTV and he is not in the car. What sort of "prestige" dealership service manager would leave a car in that state? It just doesn't ring true. If it is true, then he should be fired.

If they've said they'd replace the seats i'd be asking for evidence of the work done. Make no apologies for your lack of trust, they've already broken that.
Also insist the car is filled up to replace the fuel used, and i'd be trying to blag a free service or 2 as a goodwill gesture. Alternatively, go for an extension on the warranty, as you can no longer account for how the car has been treated during some of its run-in.
Not new car worthy, but a massive pisstake and they should be punished. One mention of 'Audi UK' will have them bending over.
