Nice. One of the last XK6 engined Jaguars.
Sadly not, this will have the 'AJ16' engine. The last cars with the XK engine was mere made in the early 90's, XJ's haven't had them since the series 3 (I think?)

My mistake, I thought this was an XJ40 not an X300. The XJ40s definetely had the XK6 engine though.

Shed is back on form! 10/10

If I hadn't just bought a car I would have had a look at that, even in the same county as me. Ad sounds genuine and just look at that leather!

When it was time for my dad to change car, he got a BMW, saying he'd never get a Jaguar ever again. I can only assume that he realised that there was no way he could top the experience of having one. Not even by getting another one. Can't think of any other explanation.
I can... wink

Very decent for the cash. Stick a dateless plate on that and the majority of joe public would reckon that a 40k+ car.
I think your right there.. people would think you have come into some money.

Smashing. However what is it with some ads of cars like this where the sellers frequently claim to have recently covered 'x' thousand miles across the continent? How are continental miles any more valid than stty UK miles eh? EH?

I'm sure it's the motoring equivalent of brewing fresh coffee when people come to view your house.

I was looking at this yesterday, seriously considering moving to a XJ for wafting, and this seemed to tick every box. Excellent choice this week, now someone please buy it before I go all silly and get my wallet out.

Nothing to say, other than "lovely shed". I had one of these as a rental, ooo...a while back now. I loved it. It liked a drink. But it was a lovely cruiser.

ER.. No they didn't, the xj40 had the Aj6 engine. The last Jag to use the XK6 was the Series 3..

What sort of performance do you get from these lovely ladies? 3.2 in a heavy car (they hadn't gone aluminium at that point had they?) can't be brilliant.

Sorely tempted, but completely unjustifiable. I have a Jag itch, especially as I hit 40 this year.....

Epic car the x300. Massively reliable, those in the know would always buy one of these, over the newer, often troublesome x308.

4.0 litre is the one to have really, but the 3.2 still has sufficient go. Only problem with these is slight rusting on rear arches if it hasn't always been garaged/waxoiled. Aside from that they will do 200k without big issues, easily if well maintained. Interior not quite as special as the earlier xj40 and personally I prefer the xj40 shape, although I know that is not the general view.

Hard to buy a better, more reliable car than a good x300 for around £1k

+1
General perception is that if you are driving a Jag, in good clean condition, then you are well off. An excellent condition Series 1-3, now reaks of 'old money', ditto the Ranger Rover Classic.

The performance is fine, they actually feel quite urgent on kick down. A 4 litre is better, obviously, but the 3.2 has perfectly adequate performance. They are quite heavy and your are correct, these are not aluminum, but they still have over 200bhp.

Confused as to why an x300 could be 'completely unjustifiable' though? These cars are the absolute bargain of the century.

Great motor - perhaps if Shane Richie had used one of these rather than the Bentley in the disatrous Minder remake he'd still be drinking in the Winchester rather than pullin' pints in the Old Vic? wink
