Pray tell PH whats wrong with retro ?. The car has the 'wrong' wheels though, they are from a sovereign and the boot lid has a chrome trim instead of body coloured is it a genuine Sport I wonder ?.
But it seems a fair price smile I sold my standard 3.2 X300 (73 thou on clock) 3 weeks ago... I regret it every day frown

Why do people keep bringing up the X308 they are completely different cars !!rolleyes

Great balance to have between the two cars, a comfy cruiser & a great fun car. Money well spent IMO.
Yep, that was the plan - had thought about getting something like an E36 328, but it would never have the feel or balance of the Elise, and is poor at doing the luxury cruiser bit compared to a Jag. Having cars at either end of the spectrum makes you really appreciate both driving

I bought an x300 XJ3.2 Sport back in 2008, it lasted 4 weeks - as long as it took the V5 to come back from Swansea! My wife took the unrelenting piss out of me for driving an old man's barge!

Great looking example right there smile Only lasted 4 weeks, what happened?
However, it was a big car and the Mrs would go absolutely nowhere near it and took the piss out of me, so put it up for sale as soon as the V5 came through.
laughlaughlaughlaughlaugh
From a man who drives a Volvo?

Just watching TG on Dave and Hammond said "Volvos are for old men who keep going when they want to stop pissing"! ONLY JOKING!!!

My age helps me now of course, but my wife has said for many years, "Why not get a Jaguar, they look so classy"!

However a chap in a BMW850 (a car I was very tempted to get) tried to keep up with my old man's Jaguar last evening! He is not as happy as he used to be!!! smile

Ha ha! The Volvo is actually a Motability car for my disabled son, but thanks for your detective like observations! For info, my wife drives a Mini and I have a 1 series BMW!

I'm fantastically amused that your employment status weighs heavily on this issue - perhaps non Company Directors may struggle tho??? smile

They're not actually small but they feel small - they're relatively low (roof line) also makes them feel less spacious - certainly there's not the 'big car' feeling you get from a 7 Series or S Class but perhaps that's deliberate...

Apologies if you were offended, I lost someone very close to me from Muscular Dystrophy many years ago, so would never poke fun at disability.

Just that your posting seemed at first to have humour in it.

The wheels have puzzled me since I bought it, I can only assume someone has changed them. The car is a 'sport' on the V5 and wears a sport badge, so presumably is a sport! As for the bootlid, I'm pretty sure the body coloured trim appeared on later models.

I'm just being an anorak pointing out the wheels - 4.0 Sovereign I think ?, plus the chrome boot trim rolleyes
I had my 3.2 for nearly 3 years and it Never let me down, check out the Jaguar thread on here, it's quite cool cool

Having now owned a later model Jag I do wonder if Jaguar only got the X300 so right because it would have taken a wilful act of stupidity to get it wrong - it was a reskin of a car that the public had been paying to finish development work on for the 7 years or so. Everything they've developed since then seems to come out half baked and if it's ever sorted it takes them 5 years to do it. If they haven't sorted out their quality issues all these XF sales will just turn out yet more people who'll swear never to buy a Jaguar again.

Can you tell I'm bitter about what a pile of st my S-Type was, after the X300 gave me such a good first Jaguar experience?

LIncoln underneath IIRC - platform shared with it I should have said.

Still, Evo loved the S-Type R when it came out...

agree witht that.

my parents ran one as a wedding car for a few years, forget the exact model but looks just like the one in the pics,

the car was a blast to drive and never had a problem getting the late bride or groom to the church on time wink

but as for the low roofline it could sometimes be an issue for both brides/grooms and others in the wedding party who had big hair/hats.

me being 6’3 could be a little problem for rear passengers too if they sat behind me, but never where they knees round their ears cramped

Only problems we had with ours was a fault on the auto gearbox, went through 2 different ones and each time it would jam in gear or park and needed the box removed to rectify the fault, started getting expensive so the car unfortunately got traded in for a Bentley

Not an anorak at all, you're the first person to mention the wheels among all these so called Jaguar aficionados! wink I'm not convinced about the boot trim, I've seen plenty other early 'sports' with chrome trim rather than body colour. We'll have to agree to disagree about that!

Ahem. I refer the right honourable gentleman to the reply I gave earlier (on page 4).

Sports usually came with the 'Dimple' alloys, the only problem with them is it's hard to find a decent set that haven't been painted and lost the original polished effect. As for the boot lid trim, I think they only made them body coloured later on. Certainly the XJ8 Sport bootlid trim will be body coloured, to match the grill.

Just been perusing some old pics and my X300 XJ Sports had chrome strips on the boot, as does my current Sovereign.

As has been stated, I think it was the X308 which introduced the body coloured boot strip.

Interesting smile

The XJR had body coloured strip on the boot, I think you could have chrome as a no cost option, i've seen genuine XJRs with the chrome grills instead of the coloured ones etc.
