Frontera up Snowdon
Discussion
Car's the star, I wonder what happened to it. I remember it popping up on ebay not long before he went up the second time? To be honest it's so notorious anyone who bought it would probably take her up again
He sounds like a fun guy. Did himself no favours not turning up and quoting something like "I did it to see if I could" - but honestly 22 months, for driving a capable 4x4 up a hill with no danger to anyone else, and no property damage, is unnecessary.

I think he put it on ebay and said he'd donate the proceeds to Ogwen Mountain Rescue. They then said they wouldn't accept the money. It did get sold, and I think some chancers took it up again, but didn't get far out of Llanberis.
I smell a lot of 'the court' having a bit of a dicky-fit in this - him not showing-up is the reason they get to "go nuts" on the sentence - courts don't like people who show contempt of any sort...
Problem is - Courts are so far up their own arse it's hard to relate them to reality - there was a case recently where a man accused of beating his wife was acquitted because the CPS had told a witness (possibly his wife) to appear at the wrong time (later in the day). The court said that it couldn't deal with such 'incompetence' - so, erm, they released a possible wife beater because they couldn't reschedule something around lunch!?
They should be fking ashamed of themeselves, they serve the people - not the other way around - if he harms anyone else I'd like to see that judge jailed - simples...
Someone needs to remind them that they're not so-far above everyone else - they need to stop looking down and start making more sense - bunch of fogeys in their own little club trying to turn a broken system into something they can deal with - but increasingly miles out of touch with everyone else.

Ben Nevis conquered by Car
In 1911 a 20 horse-power Model T Ford was driving to the top of the mountain as a publicity stunt by the Ford agents in Edinburgh. Henry Alexander Jr, the son of the owner, was the driver. The car was not simply driven up the track - it involved 10 days of preparatory work finding and checking a driveable way to just the half way mark, and to put in bridging planks. It took three further days to drive the car to this point and just two more days to cover the stones and snow to the observatory. The car would sink axle deep in the boggy ground and would have to be hauled out by role. The 'Daily Telegraph' reported at the time that a false turn of the wheel would mean a fall which would have caused total destruction to the car, and certain death to the driver!
Me Alexander was feted as a hero when the car returned to Fort William. After the brakes were adjusted no other repairs were necessary, and the car was driven back to Edinburgh.
Mr Alexander seemed to enjoy his feat so much that he repeated it in 1928, this time in a Standard New Ford (Model A Ford). The last quarter of a mile was driven with four passengers

I suppose that driving up the mountain could become some sort of offence and contempt for the court is taken seriously, but driving up the Llanberis path/walkers'-motorway in the early hours of the morning doesn't strike me as the sort of "Dangerous Driving" that warrants a custodial sentence.

Driving from Fort William to Edinburgh in a Model T in 1911 sounds just as extreme as driving it up Ben Nevis to be hoenst.http://www.mountainwalk.co.uk/bennevisfacts.html

Fair play to the guy though.
Those police camera action roadwars programs really piss me off sometimes. Some idiot will drive like a nutter with several police cars following him, he'll do over a ton on residential streets, drive down the wrong side of the road and roundabouts into oncoming traffic, miss cars and sometimes pedestrians by millimetres, nearly lose control a couple of times, finally he'll be stopped either by a cop car blocking him and then getting rammed or he'll crash, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage to a innocent motorist or/and to street furniture.
Then the narrator will inform us he had no driving licence and that he was given a 12 month driving ban. I'm sorry but why would someone with no licence and who drives like that care about a ban?
This guy gets 22 months in jail for slowly driving up a deserted mountain.

Inclined to agree. Those lenient sentences they give out on Police Camera Accident for virtually killing someone can sometimes be lighter than what I once got for not displaying a tax disc clearly. Then the narrator will inform us he had no driving licence and that he was given a 12 month driving ban. I'm sorry but why would someone with no licence and who drives like that care about a ban?

As for Frontera-man: yes he's an idiot, but 22 months jail is madness. It's actually pretty funny, but I guess they have to throw the book at him so no-one else is tempted to try that stunt.
This is ridiculous!!!
An ex colleague of mine was knocked off his bike and killed by someone who simply didnt see him,he got 14 months jail. This judgement was in the same week.
Yet some bloke was a bit daft get 22months?,the judge needs to retire or get an invite to the real world.
It really is a mad world at times.
