No doubt you have reported it to Ebay as I have done now. Obvious ringer cannot be restored if it sells someone will buy a worthless bent motor. Pity.

Yep reported it earlier - someone posted it on the RS Owners Club so thought I'd link it over here as well to get a few more reports & (hopefully) it will be removed smile

Would be interesting to do an "ask seller question" about how the "bodyshell" can be collected for restoration - I wonder if it's even on the seller's property?

Or indeed if there is any such shell. Ringers are bad news for all car owners I hope this one falls away!

The photos have been stolen from somewhere else, they do not show the 'vehicle' in question.

If you run a DLVA check the number comes back as a blue car.

It's still there despite reports - it couldn't be because there is a lot of bidding that it's being left up......

If anyone can think of a few sites that phone all hours of the day and generally are a nuisance be sure to use this information. wink

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly is a 'ringer' and why are folk so interested in buying a log book??? I follow this thread with interest yet find it hard to believe the prices some of them go for sometimes

People want a V5(and sometimes Vin plates) to create a forged identity for another vehicle. This can be to hide the fact that it's stolen, to pass off one vehicle as another ("create" one of the more valuable types of MK1/2 Escorts, a Cortina Lotus, Mini Cooper S etc), and/or to enable a vehicle too young to qualify for tax exemption to be "reborn" as an older vehicle using the extinct older car's V5.

When done the car will be a ringer or clone - although because of the standard of old car Vin plating, some can be very hard to spot.

From the expression "Dead Ringer" using the identity of an other vehicle to change the identity of another unlawfully.

Sometimes these identities are used to avoid SVA/IVA fees for kit cars, cover up insurance history or cover the identity of a stolen vehicle.

That's one of the most blatant ones I've seen. If Police/trading standards gave a flying flip, they'd be around there now.

Before eBay removed the listing I sent a screen grab to the Essex Police Facebook page. wink

Why? My understanding is that selling a V5 and tags is not actually illegal, though the DVLA are within their rights to register as "scrapped" any V5's they see for sale without a vehicle.

I thought it only becomes illegal when you try to put the ID onto another vehicle?

So D773 PVW can be placed on the ANPR system so if a vehicle with that number plate goes past a camera or car fitted with ANPR the driver can be stopped and checked out.

There's no need because the V5/ID would be SORN'd anyway, therefore flagged up straight away - it would be impossible to have the ID without being so.
