Clearly the seller is dealing in very iffy stuff. Pity because there will be unwary buyers of the vehicles subsequently sold who are buying a pig in a poke. Caveat Emptor really is the only protection. eBay should stop this but the will not do so. The great God Mamon rides again.

eBay. Everything you need for the discerning crooked car dealer.

But perhaps the V5s and service history books will be used only as "collectors' items"?

Sold items won't have the listing removed, so that's definitely been pulled by eBay.

The handbook/service book thing is tricky, as selling them isn't illegal in any way, shape or form, its what the buyer does with them that can be illegal.

Good work guys. clap

Check this one out.

MGB GT...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-GT-/121374729977?pt=...

...project with rubber bumper (post-74) mounts cut back so you can fit a chrome grille common modification I've done it myself (without it looking like a four year old welded the end plates mind you)...

...where the rubber bumper MGB badges are supposed to be on the rear pillars there's signs of filler (slight difference in paint texture from the photo I'm sure it would look better up close)...

Rubber bumper rear badge, tail lights and the suspension height are a give away as well.

I've asked the seller...

eBay message said:
I was very interested in this project until I noticed it was a rubber bumper shell. Do you have the original identity for the car or was putting "tax exempt" and "1970" in your listing a typing error? If I were to buy it I wouldn't want to risk driving a ringer.

All the best LK
I'll let you guys know if I get a reply. wink

I admire the approach. Anything that cuts this nonsense down is good.

Looking at the spelling and punctuation compared to the listing I'd say the chap was a little shocked.

Me said:
The original identity to the rubber bumper or is the car as you bought her?

All the best
I think the guy could have been duped himself and innocently selling the car on. rolleyes

That's a shame if the car came with the original rubber bumper log book I would have bought her. I hope whoever bought the car knows about this because it would be a shame to innocently get caught up in any repercussions.

All the best

Listing withdrawn, so not sold from eBay listing. Not in the recognized method, anyway!

Does it get any more obvious than this?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MGB-GT-/131235057863?pt=...

Ad Says:

"This all that is left of an MGB GT 1968. It is a 1968 MGB GT Black RMP 368G. The rest of the car has been used or gone for scrap except the few other items that I am selling. I will not send the rusty bolts etc."

Seems to have listed the wrong registration, should have read RPM 310G.

I don't think it was removed, simply ended with a winning bid of £407.52 on the 9th

As for the MGB log book above, if RPM 310G ever re-appears on the road, it will clearly not be legit.

Wording of petition:

Sale of V5c and chassis plates to be made illegal

Responsible department: Department for Transport

V5 and chassis plates sold without the vehicle to be illegal to help prevent the sale of 'vehicle ringing' kits.

Whilst it is an offence not to inform DVLA of any vehicle changes currently it appears not an offence to sale just the identity.

The V5 to be the property of HM Gov and illegal to sell.

5 signatures so far - and not me. I do wonder that although the matter is simple, are there any unintended consequences?
