Bent frame :

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TGB-202-Classic-50cc-V5-...

"We send you now the bent V5 that you need to ring that stolen car / bike. However, if you don't collect the useless frame / bits of chassis that we include in the sale just to make the log book sale appear legit, we will dump it for you"

Is that how it works?

Another absolute ringer. Reported as no doubt you have but really, EBay should be weeding these out by now clearly they are too busy counting the money! Dreadful practice.

Well spotted.

It is perhaps the absolute lack of concern by the vendor that anyone woud have the slightest concern that such a ringing activity would actually be illegal, that is most galling. Why would anyone be concerned about the legaility of a trasaction? Rather like the plates being shown on the dodgy plates listings on PH which are so utterly altered so as to be completely unreadable.

This is becoming commonplace because fewer and fewer people care about the laws of England and that is pity. I hope this listing is taken down sharpish. No doubt it will reappear.

The number of times this is occurring nowadays makes it very advisable to exercise a good deal of caution buying modified trikes, cars and kit cars currently. There are an awful lot of these about and an unwitting purchaser of the bd child of one of these nonsense identity swaps could lose a lot of money. My kit car garage contacts see such nonsenses every week. Caveat Emptor was never more important.

This guy...

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/141562509731?_trksid=p20...

...was getting calls asking for the Log book and VIN plates so I bought it.

As the car is MOT exempt I can put the plate on a retention certificate, sell the reg, parts worth selling and scrap the rest; or I have a very long term Mog Rod project. wink

it has not been told in the sales advert that this car is road registered

but the numberplates which are fixed to the car are from a 1100 escort

Evil to him who evil thinks.

Honi soit qui mal y pense, indeed.

Seems a bit odd to me I will be interested to see if it actually sells. I doubt it is road legal but it is up to the buyers to satisfy themselves as to the provenance and legality. Not a car I would purchase. Some may take a different view.

Another one! Pity is that EBay has become uninterested in stopping such dsgraces. No doubt you have reported it and so have I. But the fact is that many of these ads establish the contacts that the seller is seeking. Which ought not to happen. But it does because EBay allow it to continue.

In fairness to eBay there are over a million new listings every day and monitoring these would be a logistical nightmare. That is why it is important to report and pass on criminal items or items that can be used for crime.

Some will slip through but imagine how many would if we weren't looking out for them.

Good work guys. smile

What happens when you acquire a brand new chassis for a genuine restoration, like an old VW Beetle and want to retain the logbook of the original car? does it need an SVA? or DVLA issue new chassis number?

Selling frames and logbooks for motorcycles, encouraging theft has been a problem for at least 35 years. Shameful this still goes on especially as we'll be the ones paying for it.
