Why would you avoid it at all costs? Sounds serious.
Vehicle ID goes with chassis or monocoque (+ some other components to ensure there's enough of the original vehicle still present) - not non-structural bodyshell.

My experience building some five kit cars a year (etired reasonably liquid and mad on kit cars) (started when I was 13 still going 52 years later, (God willing) is that such unrecorded changes can be very difficult to get the DVLA/VOSA to accept the explanations offered inthe current climate. Never used to be I used to buy several half built (half baked) kit cars a year often unseen never ever had a problem.

Until the current regime started post IVA when the rules changed and the DVLA became very commercial. The last three kit cars I finished last year were a reall ball ache to satisfy the Authories about. Did it in the end but in my eperience cars such as the one in here can be very difficult to register without a lot of paperwork and time and cost. That's my experience you may have a different one.

dutton gt40:

vehicle details according to DVLA:

Vehicle make DUTTON GT 40
Date of first registration 06 August 1984
Year of manufacture 1984
Cylinder capacity (cc) 3000cc
CO₂Emissions Not available
Fuel type PETROL
Export marker No
Vehicle status Not taxed
Vehicle colour MULTI-COLOUR
Vehicle type approval Not available
Wheelplan 2 AXLE RIGID BODY

i do not remember tim dutton ever having manufactured a GT40 car...for me it looks like like a V5c from a 1984 phaeton has been used.

no idea why the actual seller lists it as a 1969 car...

Keep your eyes peeled for when the crooked B658 UHD reappears on a road near
you.

Surely this sort of thing does not help, I thought you needed to be registered.

Doubtless the seller will maintain the machine is only good for show plates which I think would avoid (Evade?) the legislation. There clearly are ways around this requirement as the various postings on PH suggest because of the sheer number of illegal registration plates about. Pity but that is likely to be the problem of such complex requirements.

Getting registered is as simple as sending a letter saying you are a garage or home mechanic and would like to make plated with your business name, website or telephone number included on vehicles you sell or work on for customers.

Sadly the loophole is pretty big.

Very sorry indeed to hear that. Had a number of my cars stolen over the years. It js a very unpleasant experience. I do hope that the car is recovered without too much damage. There are scrotes about who carry out these ot sort of crimes. Best of luck to the owner in finding the car!

Wholly insufficient for registering the identity of the car. Certainly will require IVA and I would be surprised if the DVLA woud allow registration as a Morris Minor because there is almost nothing of the car left. Very likely to get a Q plate. Avoid! Such cars are simply not salvageable IMO. Beyond economic recovery.

Very possibly. You are certainly distinctly adept at finding these nonsenses and making sure that potential buyers are aware of the reality of the downsides. Keep it up, please!

Just steal a Mini, fit MkI door hinges and grille, new chassis plates and you even have a confirming heritage certificate. 998 Coppers are making £7,000 to £15,000 at the moment so I can't think why there have been so many bids.

Interesting to see how they dealt with Cat-D back then! Just a stamp in two places!
