As eBay haven't lifted this one I've placed a bid. I'll be sure to leave honest feedback if I win. wink
I think someone has grassed me up to the seller. No watchers or activity since I placed the bid an anonymous bidder placed four to outbid me. scratchchin

Either that or the seller has a mate knocking the price up for him.

You'll have to wait until tomorrow to find out as it ends while I'm at work tonight.

I won, the seller just asked for my information for the log book and I suggested he sent it off as scrap because the number will never be used again. bow

Motorcycles have always been easy to clone. Thats one less disappointed buyer sold a pup because of ringing.

Well done indeed.

Laudable perhaps. but it hasn't really done any good. The item for sale was a joke and of no use to anyone. No right-thinking thief will try to stamp the headstock when undamaged frames are so cheap (with V5C).

The vendor was an idiot and the item was worthless, and certainly massiveley damaged, made even more obvious by his ridiculous lie.

There is no legitimate use for the item so by buying it myself I have stopped someone else either buying a ringer or having their bike nicked.

eBay Seller said:
Hi LK

According to https://www.gov.uk/scrapped-and-written-off-vehicl... I need to take it to an ATF, which means I can't sell it to you. If you would like to proceed with the sale I am happy to put in the post and transfer ownership to yourself, after which you can scrap if you know a better way of doing it.

Let me know how you would like to proceed.

Best

Every attempt to make life less easy for the criminal elements is worthwhile.

There are no such things as victimless crimes.

Well done, Liquid Kight!

Yep, you made two points I guess I'll have to counter.

1/ Never underestimate the stupidity of criminals. "No right-thinking thief" is therefore a mute point.

2/ Honda Bros 400 frames are as rare as the bikes are. Never sold in the UK and fewer than a few dozen grey imports on the road. Mini-Triumph speed triple styling, Honda reliability, low seat height and a bombproof Vee twin that makes the Bros much easier to ride than other 400's ideal for learners and commuters. This means they are going up in value especially now imports are being insured as classics.

£16.50 for the headstock and log book, steal one of the two bikes listed on eBay, swap the numbers and you have between £800-£1,500 freshly ringed and ready to sell on to an unsuspecting member of the public.

Because I was reminded of my CB1-400 experience I felt sorry for whoever was potentially about to go through the mill so I stopped it myself as eBay wouldn't.

I think the point is well made. Every attempt to foil and prevent criminality is worthwhile.

I disagree. The number of Bros frames knocking around probably exceeds the number of bikes on the road.

As I said, laudable intent, little real benefit.

No luck?

Anyway back on topic...

eBay reply said:
I'm putting the headstock and V5 in the post to you today. I did go down to a scrap yard but they don't accept bikes. The DVLA don't make it easy!

So, there's a fair bit of trust involved here. You could easily not send it off and use the part as you wish - I will officially still be liable for it which will cause all sorts of grief for me for what is essentially a £5 item. I'm hoping that you're a decent guy and that you don't do this.

I have put the V5 in an addressed envelope, all you need to do is sign part 8 and send it off. Pretty easy.

Please can you let me know when it's done.

Thanks and good luck with whatever you are building/modding with the headstock.
That's an interesting turn. I suggested the seller sent the V5C off as scrap but without a scrap yard willing to accept bikes no certificate of destruction can be issued. scratchchin

I'll try my local guys first and send it off with or without to see what happens.

The numbers can't be used on anything other than ringing a fresh import, written off or stolen bike so I've bought it to stop this from happening.

That wasn't your intention I know but someone less honest could have bought it and used it with criminal intent.

All the best LK
I'll be nicer than planned with the feedback as he didn't know.

It arrived so if you agree or not it's a bike saved. smile

If my local scrappy refuse to issue a certificate of destruction I'll send the log book, covering letter and a photo's off to the DVLA.

Now as it's Aluminium destroying it could be fun. wink
