That will be because before the V5C was introduced, you were able to alter the model name on the V5.

Make your bike newer and delay the inconvenience of an MoT.

A handy alternative to stealing one and ringing it.

Not nice for the victim, but definitely nothing to do with V5s and VIN plates for sale on eBay.

I see both points.

Yes there are more Lotus Cortina's registered now than there were ever made due to lapses in the old system.

Now it would be all but impossible to pull the same kind of tricks (we hope).
You can back this up with facts I assume?

With regards to their registration documents, it is certainly possible. Pre-V5C you could alter the model name on the V5 from Ford Cortina GT to Ford Lotus Cortina by simply filling in the form and sending it off.

Even if the information/statement isn't strictly accurate, then the assertion was correct.

One of the many pages about it.

There were 3,306 Mk1 Lotus Cortinas built but at one stage there were over six thousand registered.

More holes in the advert than in the (optional!) chassis:

Relisted, but still with an optional sale of logbook without chassis.

Very. I'm on my way to Kent right now. I wonder if the eBay seller owns a horse.
