The Sussex police facebook page and website dont make it clear where this would fit into but I have emailed them with a link to the advert and an explanation so hopefully they can do something about it.

It would appear that even Sussex police are not interested, this is the reply I recieved. Quite why the council or trading standards would be interested I dont know. Would the DVLA be interested?

Hi Adam,

Thank you for this information, i have loged it on our Ref: 0761/15/04/16. I agree, it certainly appears strange / suspicious that someone should be selling these items. However, it would no be Sussex Police that would investigate this. the DVLA or Trading Standards that are contactable via your local council would be the most likely authority that would investigate this. As the advert is listed from the Chichester area it may be worth contacting chichester council.

Many stolen classic Minis broken but their own cars had been cloned (or ringed?).

In an update to this I reported it to NAVCIS and recieved an email back stating that the registration will be logged with the DVLA and the second it pops up on the system for MOT or historic taxed the new owner will be invited for a complete vehicle inspection before it is issued.

You might indeed get away with it. You might well find that the DVLA/VOSA identify the anomaly and VOR the vehicle and It is scrapped in consequence. I woud personally not take the risk. I have seen a number of dubious kit cars being brought to various specalist garages I know in the kit car business over the years. Every one has not returned to the road because the DVLA have seriously tightened up on such creations post IVA. Caveat Emptor is the best policy.

These turn up regularly on the web. They do not seem to sell.

Seems simpler, cheaper and a whole lot eaiser to buy a properly registered genuine kit car?

Hardly a 'ringer', is it? Do you even know how vehicles used to be registered when this was built?

It's a triggers broom at best. Still 1147cc on the log book even though it's a 7/11 Crossflow in there. Triumph front end and Ford rear end; extensive chassis and bodywork. Depending how much of the original Herald chassis is in place it could be classed as "rebodied" but not likely.

1147 on the log book means it should be here...

...if the engine swap hasn't been declared what are the chances anything else has?

Shame it looks like a great little car but I don't have a barge pole long enough. wink

Originally a 'Special', which is my whole point. Its not about that particular car though.

If its not about that particular car then may I ask what is about? The car must be the crucial consideration?

Incorrectly registered cars are by no means always esay to get reregistered. Particularly post IVA?

For a supposedly intelligent man, you seem to be struggling with the bleeding obvious. There were two old 'kit' cars which weren't registered properly, but only one had a pertinent comment.

They aren't, and it isn't, but it is nothing to do with the foolishly titled 'ringing kits' and it shows that most of the posters, putting it kindly, don't really understand.

If you really are a retired professional then you're more than old enough to remember specials and hence understand my point.

that car is obviously a Locust....locUst´s are using cortina as donor...so this car never used and does not use any component of a triumph.

locust cars (incl. the ebay car) have their own ladder frame chassis, plywood body skinned with aluminium, front subrame of cortina, incl. cortina whishbones, hubs, brakes, steering, engine, gearbox, live-axle, pdeal-box...even the speedometer is from the donor-cortina.

this car isnt a speical, nor a modified triumph...its a LocUst, built in the 90ies..possibly finished after SVA came into force and instead of doing the test, somebody took a V5c from a triumph.

this car is a 100% ringer!!!

i hope the final bid wont be from a genuine ebay-er...he will get a 100% incorrectly registered car...which is illegal to drive on the road.
