I think it's already been pulled by E bay. Only his Rolls Royce is showing as listed items.

Back off topic eh? hehe

Number plate checks are only there to make sure the plates are held securely and all the letters and numbers are clearly visible on a correctly coloured plate with proper letter sizing and spacing.

The VIN number has to be on permanent display either a VIN plate secured to the vehicle or stamped/etched into the body.

That is all that is required for the MOT. Some don't bother to look at all, some by the book testers will say "okay all the plates check out and are the numbers are the same as the log book, what's next?" as they have twenty five MOT's to do that day; others will look at the car look at the V5C and refuse to test the vehicle because it's obvious the plates do not correspond to the vehicle at all.

There are some cases where the MOT tester forgot his/her guide dog that day and other cases where MOT testers have been reported to VOSA and lost their business. If like in this case the car is obviously nothing to do with the log book it's up the tester to either proceed or not, even then if the numbers match the V5C there is little they can do.
We test what we are presented with to test, if the VIN/registration combination is not on the MOT database, then we create a new record of that combination and get on with the test. The vehicles identity is not safety related and is not within the scope of the test.

The tester is not required to see the V5C, the only reason to refuse the to test that concerns vehicle identification is:

The vehicle has neither Vehicle Registration Mark nor VIN/Chassis
Number/Frame Number by which it can be identified or, that all such
identifications are illegible or use letters and numbers not normally used in the
English language.

This one's already been rung - the Fiesta Popular didn't arrive until 1981 and this one is the wrong blue, wrong seats, wraparound bumpers......

it's a 1981/2 car with a 1978 logbook.

There's a serious possibility that's the car he bought and was ripped off.

Nonsense advertising: as ever best avoided. Same with the XJ6 previously posted. The DVLA really is not effective on these matters. I have seen several kit cars which were not what they were supposed to be in any way, on here, relisted and relisted and relisted. Notably with kit cars and other easily misrepresented vehicles. My concern is for the unsuspecting buyers, because such cars are not actually properly registered and this very probably will result in total loss of the vehicle, if that is discovered which it may well be.

With kit cars nowadays I think Caveat Emptor really is essential. Years ago I regularly bought unfinished kit cars. Not any more. With purchases now full paperwork and provenance is absolutely essential. Really is difficult to be certain even if you really know the business. Real care is needed in assessing such cars.

Probably, but somewhat lacking in evidence.
(we're pretty sure the chassis would fit in an envelope, based on the description, but we can't prove that.)
