Another thinly veiled ringing document?

Probably, but somewhat lacking in evidence.
(we're pretty sure the chassis would fit in an envelope, based on the description, but we can't prove that.)
Auction now has some pictures of a rolling chassis
A 1970 'series' coil sprung chassis?... okaaay

Yeah, that's almost certainly a bit fishy.

Fair point. I didn't pay any attention. I'm disappointed in my level of beard. I consider myself a bit of a Landy geek too. frown

I was looking at the quality of the welds to see if the coil spring mounts had been added to the leaf spring chassis. scratchchin

The chap selling this may be an innocent victim of a pre-ringed chassis. It's how he bought it, doesn't know better and the log book is the one that came with it but as we all know and a high ranking judge once told me...

As a point of pedantry

Ignorance of the illegality of the act is no defence - but surely ignorance that your car is hooky surely is a defence if you can actively demonstrate it?

Ignorance could then be considered/used as mitigation. wink

Removed and relisted. rolleyes

Here's a good one.

1.3 Escort L shell (look at the strut tops and other clues) with parts from a series one RS Turbo.

It looks well done but the number plate was always an RST? Looks like someone may have swapped the VIN number and plate from the RST donor.

'Interesting' last failed MOT on that car too, apparently been re-MOTd a couple of days after...

I didn't bother with an MOT check...

...I wish I hadn't now. That reads like it was written by Stephen King on a bad day.

The idea of paying 15 grand for a Mark 3 Escort of any kind is alien to me, especially a rusty turd like that.

Indeed. Sadly there is a lot of this about and threads like this help to expose the extent of such dishonesty. Considerable care is needed in buying older cars nowadays. All to easy to be ripped off! Caveat Emptor is the buyers Bible!

I don't really have problem with that. The floorpan of those is the important bit. As long as it's right for the claimed year (I don't know Beetles well enough to call it one way or the other), I'd not regard as being any worse than a chassis with V5.

It's borderline - technically legal because the floorpan is there, verging on illegal because it looks pretty crusty and is probably beyond repair.

Selling an uneconomical-to-repair chassis/floorpan with a V5 is exactly as legal as selling a perfect chassis/floorpan with a V5.
