Whoops I should have made contact first. Hopefully the sale goes through I'll send it straight to the DVLA with a note explaining the situation. wink

You paid £50 of your hard-earned just to get that kit out of circulation?

I try to buy some of the ones that don't get removed if I can afford it. Have sent a dozen to the DVLA this year.

£50 to save someone from losing their car is a bargain.

An Escort special. People don't seem to realise that this was perfectly legitimate.

It's arrived so I have left positive feedback (so it can not be deleted) as it arrived on time and was as described. hehe

Feedback said:
I purchased this VIN and V5C to stop it from being used to ring a stolen car.
Now should I send it the DVLA or NaVCIS? scratchchin

All of the other identities I have bought because they weren't deleted on time have been sent with a cover letter to the DVLA.

Can you not photocopy it, fill it in and send it off to the DVLC as scrapped then send it back to the seller and ask for a refund? biggrin

ETA, Don't forget to SORN in the mean time!

The DVLA don't accept photocopies.

When the DVLA or Royal Mail lost the log book to my MGB (DVLA vs Liquid Knight) I sent them a photocopy after they threatened me with a "fine". This was a non-mandatory service charge or penalty notice and not a fine at all. Thus ending in my accusing the then Minister of Transport directly of Fraud and Treason as he was responsible for the conduct of the profiteering quango at the time (for the record I've calmed down a lot since then). The original plan was to get eight letters from the DVLA as it cost £10 per letter to send out (administration, printing, postage and so on) so if they wanted £80 from me they were going to have to earn it.

Because they described a penalty charge as a fine they were implying there would be legal ramifications to non-payment. Obviously this is a civil matter and nothing whatsoever to do with any court. Non-payment of a fine can land you in prison but non-payment of a penalty notice can at worst take a point off your credit rating. This was a fraudulent misrepresentation of the Crown and therefore an act of Treason.

It worked. hehe

It's also the same for any penalty notice. Council parking tickets, enforcement notices for littering, pigeon feeding and whatever cash cow they're trying to milk to subsidise the Poll Tax budget constraints. If it has the word "fine" written on it or if the person issuing the notice uses the word "fine" to describe it.

soapbox

Sorry to go off topic but it was a David vs Goliath kind of deal and I really liked the challenge at the time even though now it sounds daft at best. silly

You do get a bit more than just a log book and chassis plates, this could be restored with a lot of time and money, but I am willing to bet most of the bidders are after the vin plates and log book

Haha. It is quite expensive for that purpose!

It seems that, going by feedback, all sorts of people list these. Many have been members for years, dealing in normal goods. Not good.
