I don't know about anyone else but this is exactly the sort of car I thought we would be driving in the future! Well now I am old enough I have the choice get a bigger house or make my nine year old self very happy.

Congratulations to BAC for producing such a monster - and it looks absolutely gorgeous.

Brilliant body work and this totally sets it apart from all of the other ladder framed cars. Great decisions made especially the use of a conventional chassis.

The only thing that the car seems to need is a bike engine.

The only way to get it in the states and on the road is via kit, as Ultima has done.

Would paint the vertical panel at the front black to hide it.

Agree (and sort of did that), still doesn't stop me wanting it badly. If I had that sort of cash to blow on a toy, they'd have my deposit already. It's so difficult to find pure cars these days. It's the reason the two cars I desire most at the moment are that and the Ginetta G40R.

can you drive an F3/Formula Renault on the road though?

I am so sad I will never get to own one of these...

I had a good look over this car at Chum, there are some very trick looking features, suspension, steering wheel, hewland box etc etc. It also has aerospace style build quality (apart from the rear offside tyre rubbing through the carbon body panel). I do have concerns though. Just mentally add up the cost of it's components, when your done I'm sure you will get a very high number, I can't see how this car could sell for a profit which means there is a high chance it really won't bs around for long, a real shame.

On another note I'd feel hugely let down if I spent £80k on a car and it came with a 2.3 cossie 4cyl. Something more exotic is required, Cossie KF or powertech V8 please.

Given the weight and it's nature, that powerplant will be perfectly suited to the car. Sticking a heavier, more complicated V8 into a very light car would be counter productive. You want compact, light, robust and plenty powerful. All of which it appears to be.

Yes, objectively.

But subjectively and exotically I want a gutsy, lightweight V6 that screams melodically, manically and beautifully to 9k.

Something like a lightweight bike engine based V8 would add to the experience, but also to the cost. I think the four is right for this car and this price point. You want properly lightweight, you have to make some sacrifices.

For people that like the minimalistics of the Mono for a faction of the cost how about a MEV Atomic?

The whole point of this car is that it's not compromised at all......

Is that basically not the same drivetrain as a CSR Caterham?
Would one of those at half the price not be better value (and a little more inconspicuous?)
Otherwise get the same experience and performance from a superbike (from £2,000 to £10,000)...

Similar engine. Transmission looks to be a pneumatically actuated Hewland F3 transaxle (a good £15k in that alone). Which is more in line with the Caterham/Lola than anything like a CSR.

You'd get better straight line performance from a superbike. That's where the comparison will end however.

No doubt whatsoever that from A to B, or round the lap of a track the Mono would be mightily impressive and difficult to beat. But for a dopamine fix/£ ratio there would be many better alternatives.
Additionally, would you be satisfied to, a) never really be good enough to exploit it's full potential on track, or b) only be able to use 30% of it's full performance on the road?

There's a case of perspective to consider. The sort of person who will spooge £80k on a toy will not consider it expensive.

Two points that could easily be leveled at superbikes, Caterhams, Atoms and any supercar you can think of.

Though I would answer:

a) Yes, I am in that situation at the moment (with something quicker) and learning how to drive something like that is exactly what makes it interesting. If I could get in there and drive the st out of it now, I'd be bored of it.

b) I have a couple of cars that I can't drive as quickly as I could on track on the road, they don't have to be bonkers things like the Mono to get into that situation. I still enjoy driving both on the road.
